We got the news this morning that the Corvette Assembly Plant’s assembly line will be shut down for four days next week due to a parts supply issue. As Monday is officially President’s Day and a UAW holiday, the closure only affects production from Tuesday, February 21st to Friday, February 24th.

GM Spokesman Dan Flores said in a statement to The Detroit News:

“Our supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production to meet the strong demand for our products.”

The last time the plant was closed for a full week was October 17-21st. The plant had lost a couple of shifts earlier this month as well due to an ice storm in the Southwest that delayed parts arriving at the plant.

As we were checking out the 2023 Corvette production totals, we also see a pause in Z06 production occured starting on February 1st and ending on February 9th. Production resumed on February 10th with 20 Z06s completed and the following Monday the plant built another 24. Our current totals for Z06 production through Tuesday, Feb. 14th are 836 regular Z06s and 116 70th Anniversary for a total of 952 customer-built cars

We’ve been rather bullish on the production totals lately and it seemed like things were going well over the last few months, but this closure due to parts supply is another sign that we’ve still got a ways to go.

The plant is expected to resume operations with both shifts reporting on Monday, February 27th.
