The National Corvette Museum Played Host to the 6th Annual Vette City Con

Corvettes aren’t the only pop-culture phenomenon that can be enjoyed during a visit to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green.

While hosting the annual Vette City Con 2023 on Saturday, the NCM welcomed enthusiasts of comic books, movies, video games, cosplay, and anything else related to pop culture.

“When you get here, it is like a judgment-free zone, kind of like Planet Fitness,” Josh Shortt, a cosplayer and pop-culture convention enthusiast, explained in an interview with WBKO. “You can go there and feel comfortable in your own skin. Because sometimes out in the world, if you are nerdy it is kind of seen as different or weird, but here, I mean the weirder, the better.”

Indeed, if you’re going all out with your cosplay, Shortt says, “no one is uncomfortable with it” at Vette City Con. “In fact, people applaud that. You just kind of feel at home with all of your fellow nerds here, and it is really great.”

Vette City Con 2023 featured vendors selling original art, food, movies, comic books, and clothing, not to mention hosting celebrity guests like Jason Voorheese from the Friday the 13th movie franchise and Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, who were among the celebrities who posed for pictures and signed autographs for fans.

Shortt called Vette City Con a safe space for visitors, explaining “it is a lot to get new people in the doors sometimes because it can be intimidating.”

But with the large crowd at VCC, Shortt says, “if you have this feeling that you just need to let yourself go a little bit, you can dress up as your favorite superhero. You can pretend that you are that one person saving the world. Getting out here, having fun and forgetting about day-to-day life is what it is all about.”
