[VIDEO] Edmunds’ Unique U-Drags Pits the C8 Corvette Z06 Against the McLaren 765LT

About a year ago, automotive information superpower Edmunds.com unveiled a new all-around vehicle speed test that put a standing quarter-mile, a rolling quarter, a braking test, and a high-g corner together into one smooth, video-friendly segment that they dubbed the U-Drag.

After a very strong – and ‘Vette-heavy – start, the U-Drags portion of “Ed’s” YouTube channel went dark for months at a time. Now, it is back with a new host, and, oh yeah, the Gemini Project is along for the ride too!

Going there and back again with America’s flat-plane superstar is the de facto foil of its rookie campaign; the McLaren 765LT. Since the remaining naturally aspirated competitors in the sports/supercar segment struggle to keep pace with the Z and its record-setting LT6, the 755-HP twin-turbo Brit has had to repeatedly step up to defend Europe’s honor against the encroaching scourge that is the C8 Z06. Not only did this pinnacle of McLaren’s “mid-tier” Super Series bring more firepower to the table, but it’s also around 600 lbs. (!!!) easier on the scale than the Bowling Green Brawler. If our 8,600 RPM hometown hero is going to stand much of a chance against this monster McLaren, it is going to have to lean heavily on its state-of-the-art Michelins and otherworldly ceramic grabbers and make up time in the stopping and handling portions of the U.

We don’t play spoiler around here, but we will tell you to watch with your best sound system connected and turned to 11; no matter how the dust settles, we know the Z06’s exhaust note will remain undefeated!
