With two kids under six in the house, it would be exceptionally ill-advised to blow my entire transportation budget on a two-seater. Even though I love America’s Sports Car enough to write weekly odes to its majesty, buying one at this point in my life would be irresponsible, immature, reckless, and a lot of other fun words that my wife likes to/has to throw into the mix with the overarching sentiment above at least every other month.

The star of today’s post is that rare combination of completely irresistible AND semi-affordable, and to save me from myself, I need your help, Corvette Nation. Someone, please take this vixen off the market before I do something that my family will regret!

The dealership formerly known as the Viper Exchange still specializes in venomous Dodges, but they’ve also become quite versed with the Crossed Flags. Currently, parked next to a ’98 Callaway C12 and a Hypersonic C8.R in their showroom is an object of unfathomable desire, a final-year C6 Z06 with the Z07 Ultimate Performance Package.

The hardcore Z07 RPO “ZR1ified” the 7-liter brute with Magnetic Ride Control, Ferrari Enzo-spec carbon ceramic brakes, weight-saving Cup wheels, a new full-length spoiler (which is always black on 2012 and ’13 models), and a set of semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport gumballs. Its inclusion not only made the naturally aspirated monster four seconds faster at the Green Hell than the 2009 ZR1 and shaved an incredible 20 seconds off the non-Z07’s time, but it also makes this black beauty more than twice as rare as the vaunted C7 ZR1. It was one of just 83 units minted during the ‘Vette’s 60th birthyear and one of 740 made overall in three years on sale. This fine example is also outfitted with the top-shelf 3LZ interior, which features the red accent stitching option to match the calipers. You’ll also see option B92, the carbon fiber hood that features the more dramatic sculpting of its supercharged sibling, sans window.

Now, I’m usually of the James May school of modification, “leave it alone, you’ll just ruin it,” but this Z07’s previous owner had the all-too-uncommon restraint gene, and the minor upgrades to this car are true improvements to an already astonishing machine. The Z07’s traditional black carbon ground effects – and the spoiler – have been replaced with stunning exposed carbon bits from APR Performance. It is slightly lowered. The Z badges have been blacked out. Corsa – A company that I’ll be loyal to until the day I die – provided a carbon intake and exhaust. There’s also some slick Morimoto tail lights, and inside are a set of Lloyd’s Mats and a short throw shifter that looks like it’s from either TMODcustoms or LG Motorsports; either way, it’ll greatly improve shift action!

All books, keys, outdated navigation DVDs, and a window sticker reading “$104,415” are included in the sale, and after traveling just under 14,500 miles in the last decade, this Hall of Famer can now be had for $64,995. This is so much car for the money, undeniably one of the greatest Corvettes ever made, and I’m already insanely jealous of its next owner. Reel in this one-in-a-million catch while you can, these don’t come up for sale but a couple of times a year, and seldom are they presented in such show-stopping condition!

  1. Alex, Go For It!!!
Only one of your two kids needs to go to school…besides the one that doesn’t is probably going to live with you till they’re in their late 30s anyways…problem solved! Its what I’m good at. LoL!!! Cheers, JB

  2. @ Alex: Just go for it, you only live once, you can make it work. When I bought my ’07 Z06, I needed to have my head examined. I had too many cars including a C3 and not enough money. But I fell in love with the sixth generation and with FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVEN cubic inches and over FIVE HUNDRED horse power, I went for it and never looked back.

  3. Ok Alex, now pay attention. First of all who cares what James May says, he’s a douche bag and pretty much a sissy. Either get a new wife or explain to her that this car needs to be in your lives, I hope you have a four door family rig now if not find a cheap mini van or SUV, then for all things wholly BUY THIS FRIGGEN CAR!!!! This is what a garage is for Alex. This is one of the nicest most beautiful C6’s I have ever seen. I thought my 11′ GS C6 was pristine and flawless and it is but wow!! I agree with Ronnie, just do it. Figure out the details later, the wife will get over it and you may never get a chance like this again. I don’t know about you, but I hate those future “What if?” or “I should have pulled the trigger, now I hate myself”. Wow, 14k remember it will ALWAYS be worth money, tell her it’s an investment:) Everyday before work I go through the “Damn it I don’t want to go to work, I am sick of working”. Well then I look out the window and see my beautiful Crystal Red Met Tint-coat 11′ Grand Sport and remind myself, “oh ya I need to pay for the art work in my driveway” and off I go. Lol, been doing it for years. JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!

  4. Alex, I wanted a Corvette since I was 15 years-old. Got out of grad school, got a job, got married, had kids. Put family and kids first. Got them all through college, and none had debt when they got out of college. Bought my first Corvette, 2018 Grand Sport, via factory order. When my kids found out I bought the car, they all said, Dad, you did not do anything for yourself until you knew were on our own, and could take care of ourselves. So do in accordance with your priorities.

  5. This car is a rare find at a good price. It would be tough to find another one like it for the money. Go on and go for it!!! Like Ronnie said you only live once. I bought my newest Corvette online and didn’t discuss it with my wife until all the paperwork was completed and the check sent via FedEx. Even though she preferred that I had I told her about it first she came around quick when she saw that bad boy come off the transporter in front of our house. She was just as happy with it as I was!

  6. Thanks for the encouragement, and even a voice of reason, guys! I’m about two weeks from wrapping up my MBA. The pay bump that comes along with it will make something like this a real possibility. Unfortunately, that doesn’t kick in until March and this beauty isn’t likely to wait for me. I COULD swing it right now, but I’d have to skimp on Christmas and feed the family Ramen for four months. I adore this car (and C6 ZR1s are coming back down to earth, bringing the toughest choice in ‘Vettedom – LS9 or LS7? – back into relevance), but will likely be shooting for a Camaro ZL1. Those vestigial back seats mean that it can accommodate the kids if need be. I know my day in a Corvette will come eventually, but the wait is rough when you’ve got the fever!
