Jeff Bellmyer dropped his phone when he first saw the voice mail from the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum.

The 64-year-old resident of Moline, Illinois hadn’t answered the call a few minutes earlier because he didn’t recognize the number and besides, he was watching a movie anyway.

“Ten minutes later the movie was over,” Bellmyer explained. “I picked up my phone. I read the voice mail instead of listening to it, and it said, ‘Hello Jeff, this is Bob from the Sprint Car Hall of Fame.’ I dropped my phone. I knew they were doing the drawing for the Corvette at 10 that night and got very emotional. My wife sitting on the other side of the living room thought possibly someone had passed away.

“She didn’t know what was wrong and I choked out, I won a Corvette. She looks at the phone and said, it doesn’t say that. I know but they called me. Why else are they calling me? They aren’t calling me to say my credit card is no good.”

Indeed, Bob Baker, executive director of the Hall of Fame, was calling with the good news that Jeff was the lucky winner of a 2022 Corvette C8.R – in Hypersonic Gray with yellow accents – in the organization’s annual Corvette Giveaway.

Bellmyer was lucky indeed because a record number of tickets was sold for the raffle, with slightly more than $1 million worth of tickets purchased this year.

Here is a link to the live giveaway, which was conducted the evening of Saturday, August 13, 2022:

In case you’d like to hear your own name called next year, Baker says the Corvette Giveaway for 2023 will be the 70th Anniversary Edition in White Pearl Metallic Tri-Coat. Tickets are already on sale on the Hall of Fame’s website.
