Check out these new C8 Corvette spy photos that arrived in our email box today just hours after Chevrolet and General Motors have publicly acknowledged an electrified Corvette model would be coming next year. Could this be a production E-Ray hiding under the camo or is it one of the “other phenomenal gas-powered variants in the pipeline” such as the ZR1 that GM President Mark Reuss alluded to in today’s Electric Corvette announcement?

This prototype is interesting with its heavy camo and wheel covers, and it looks like we’ve got a new version of the “heavy” black camouflage on this car as you can see the new design features see-thru mesh panels behind the door which makes the side mount air intakes visible through the camo. We also note that it leaves exposed the roof, side rockers, and rear lower fascia.

One of the reasons why we’re not sure this is the E-Ray is the Quad Center Exhaust which we believe will be exclusive to the cars with the LT6 engine. The quad center exhaust was specifically designed with parabolic exhaust outlets for amplifying the LT6 V8’s unique engine note. However, we continue to see the corner-mounted exhaust systems still being tested with the Z06 so we think there is still something significant about those Z06 prototypes with the Stingray-style exhaust systems and that they are more than just an older exhaust design.

With the Z06’s development nearly completed and the car starting production this summer, we think the next car up on the production schedule following the 2024 E-Ray would be the C8 ZR1 which is probably on track to be a 2025 model. The ZR1 has long been rumored to carry a twin-turbo version of the Z06’s 5.5-liter LT6 flat-plane crank engine and is expected to have a power rating somewhere around 850-hp.

The only thing I think we can absolutely state as new other than the mesh camo is the wheel designs showing behind the circular covers. The visible details from these wheels don’t appear to match the Z06’s Spider aluminum wheels or the visible carbon fiber rims, and they certainly look different than the open-spoke and Trident wheels on the Stingray.

So what the heck is this C8 Corvette prototype in these new spy photos? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. There’s definitely a radiator exit in the nose rather than a frunk. There is also a new intake over the rear wheel arch behind the side scoop. Whatever that is needs a lot of air to keep it cool. Looks like fun.

  2. Doesnt appear to be electrified, no front axles showing. From what I understand the hybrid vettes will have there front wheels powered by electric motors making them all wheel drive, not sure on the EV vette coming later.

  3. Man I gotta get a new job to order a Z06!! But Im stuck in Commiefornia. This is on another level, of course its the ZR1 proto as the Zora is a AWD hydrid.
Selling my ATSV soon, just holding on until after the collapse of the economy unless I can get some silver or other metals with the profits.
    God bless yall.

  4. Spy videos give me a break they let you take pictures and videos for publicity 🤦🏼‍♂️

  5. Looks like the front opening is wider. Closer to the wheel like a C8R. Could be that the side scoops are bigger as well. “ZR1” seems most likely.
