Corvette for Sale: 1970 Laguna Gray Corvette on eBayE

The seller of this 1970 Corvette convertible claims that it’s a rare color.

We’re not sure.

According to the Corvette Black Book, which we take as the gospel when it comes to Corvette facts and figures, exterior color quantities aren’t available from Chevy for the 1970 model year. However, according to statistics based on the 957 cars compiled by the 1970 Corvette Registry, the colors appear to be pretty evenly spread out that year, with Donnybrooke Green (19.4 percent), Monza Red (13.74 percent), Daytona Yellow (10.4 percent), and Mulsanne Blue (10.2 percent) the top four shades.

Laguna Gray, which turned out to be a one-year-only offering, rated at 7.5 percent in this limited sampling. Whether the color is rare or not, we still think this Laguna Gray Stingray- currently being offered at no reserve on eBay – is one very sharp Corvette.

So far, with the auction slated to come to an end Tuesday, 16 bids have pushed the highest offer to $30,200.

Originality appears to be the name of the game for this Stingray, with the seller claiming it still has its original paint, black top, and upgraded black interior more than half a century later.

While there’s no mention of documentation to prove that the car’s visible odometer reading of just 40,977 miles is accurate, it does appear to be in better than normal condition.

The numbers-matching L46 350 V8 engine is still under the hood and was capable of pumping out an impressive 350 horsepower back in the day. Coupled with a four-speed manual transmission, we’re sure this car is capable of producing loads of tire-squealing fun for the new owner.

Indeed, the seller notes that this Corvette “runs and drives great” and is a “very nice car with very little blemishes.” Indeed, the most noticeable flaw we spotted immediately was the faded woodgrain on the passenger door panel, but that’s an easy fix.

  1. Yes,

Laguna Grey was 1970 only. I had one.

Laguna Grey Coupe with Bright Blue interior, 350/300, turbo 400.

My friend had a 1971 in Steel Cities Grey.

  2. If nothing else, I’d say that the color is rare today. Hardly any C3s for sale in today’s market are ever grey.
