The Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction in South Florida will be held April 7-9th and you can bet that one of the most exciting sales of the weekend will be for the very first retail 2023 Corvette Z06 convertible! The C8Z HTC will cross the block on Saturday, April 9th at approximately 4:30 PM ET live on the History Channel with proceeds from the sale to benefit the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) which represents Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominately Black Institutions (PBIs).

“Supporting non-profit organizations that provide higher education opportunities for young men and women has long been one of the pillars of our charitable endeavors,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We have helped raise more than $144 million to date for many deserving organizations and we are excited to provide a platform in Palm Beach to raise funds and awareness for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and do it with such an iconic vehicle from our incredible partners at Chevrolet.”

Like the 2023 Corvette Z06 Coupe offered earlier this year, the Z06 Convertible (LOT #3005) is a modern marvel with the all-new 5.5 liter LT6 that is the highest horsepower naturally aspirated V8 at 670 hp that includes a flat-plane crankshaft design which can rev up to 8600 RPM. The Corvette Z06’s four quad exhaust ports are designed to reflect the sound of the car back to the occupants to create a soundtrack unlike we’ve ever had before. Inside the car, the Z06 oozes with premium materials and unique features that include a carbon fiber-wrapped steering wheel, sueded microfiber upper interior trim and three seating options.

The first 2023 Corvette will be spec’d as a 3LZ Convertible and the car’s new owner will be able to choose everything from the body and roof colors to interior, wheels, and brakes.

“We are proud of our relationship with Barrett-Jackson, GM and Chevrolet, and fully support the next generation of leaders from HBCUs, institutions that play a critical role in ensuring young people of color are not left behind,” said TMCF President and CEO Dr. Harry L. Williams. “TQRP provides additional opportunities for students of color which will ultimately lead to a more diverse workforce, both in the K-12 educational environment and beyond.”

“Achieving our goal of being the most inclusive company in the world requires a commitment to grow the next generation of diverse engineers and designers. That’s why Chevrolet and General Motors supports the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s Teacher Quality & Retention Program and its mission to prepare teachers that inspire the next generation of students, especially students of color” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet Marketing. “We’re hopeful the sale of the first retail Corvette Z06 Convertible will be a great benefit to TMCF as one of many efforts by General Motors to build a diverse STEM education pipeline.”

The first retail 2023 Corvette Z06 Coupe was sold in January at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction for $3.6 million with Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick placing the winning bid. The proceeds from that sale were donated to Operation Homefront which helps military families thrive in their communities. The first Z06 Coupe will be a 70th Anniversary edition in either the White Pearl Tri-Color or Carbon Flash Metallic Black.

Those interested in registering to bid on this Z06 convertible to support the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, as well as the entire 2022 Palm Beach Auction docket can do so here.

  1. I am confused. I must be crazy because I really don’t care what the personal background is of the folks smart enough and ingenious enough to design the successful vehicles I drive – as long as they are the best at what they do. I hope they don’t start checking my ethnicity before they even allow me to buy one of their creations. Got to love it : “…..especially students of color” – everyone else just has to work for it I guess. I’m buying a car or truck – if anyone asks me about it, they usually don’t ask the color of the engineer who designed the wiper controls. I didn’t know that made the product better. As long as they work awesome, I could care. Are we getting to the point where sometime soon there won’t be a “made or assembled in USA” sticker on stuff, but rather a “made or assembled or designed by over 50% XXXXXX – American” (fill in your choice of subset, mine is Polish even though it never shows up on any minority lists)? I would not be at all surprised.
