If you ever wondered what would happen to your Corvette if you left it up to nature, this C2 Corvette convertible might be the answer.

Based on the script in the corner of the hood, we believe this could be a 1966 Corvette Sting Ray.

What it is, is a crying shame that one of the 17,762 convertibles produced that year could wind up in this condition.

But it is what it is.

The car is currently being offered on an online-only auction on HiBid out of Evansville, Indiana. Believe it or not, 53 bids have already been placed, rising to a high of $6,750, with the auction slated to come to an end on April 24.

No details are offered about how the car wound up in this condition, but one person who commented on barnfinds.com, where we spotted it, surmises it could have been stolen in the ‘70s and possibly stripped of its drivetrain, hubcaps, and seats back then. Another joked that the “48B” sign in all the photos is being held by the owner, who’s been looking for his car with this parking lot stub all these years and just now found it!

We always liked the look of the hardtops on these C2s, but unfortunately this one looks as if it’s had a faux sunroof cut it into it.

While we never like to give up on a Corvette, especially one this old, we worry what the elements have done to the birdcage and frame. On the other hand, one person posted that the car still appears to have “very good” fiberglass, making it worth at least $5,000 in his opinion, but only if it still has a legitimate VIN and wasn’t unwittingly stolen years ago.

Having seen these photos, would you still be willing to gamble on this car?

  1. It’s toast. Might be a couple of small parts that could be salvaged. Doubt the birdcage is usable, weather attacked the paint, fiberglass too.

  2. Sitting in leaves means there is probably nothing left of the chassis I would love to see what happens when the car is dragged onto a flat bed.

  3. It is sitting inside a garage. You can see the inside of the garage doors. Unfortunately somebody didn’t spend a thousand dollars years ago to replace shingles and the framing of the roof rotted and collapsed onto the car.
