[PIC] Here is the Roof Damage at the Corvette Assembly Plant

Here is the best photo yet we’ve seen of the damage to the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, KY following a tornado strike early Saturday morning.

We have seen the roof from a couple of flyovers in the last couple of days, but this pic uploaded to the Corvette Forum gives us a better sense of the roof repairs needed. And this is just the roof. We have no idea what’s under the holes in the roof, or if any of the equipment under these holes were damaged by the rain, water, or damaged roof materials falling through.

CorvetteBlogger contributor Jeremy Welborn reached out to Billy Joe Steen who did one of the recent flyovers at the Corvette Plant and this birds-eye view may give us a better idea of the scope of damage to the roof:

I am trying to be as optimistic as possible, but I think we are looking at the assembly plant being closed at least through the New Year, and perhaps even longer.

The good news is that it does sound like GM is pulling out all the stops to get workers, equipment, and materials to Bowling Green to assist in the repairs. We should have a better idea of the plant’s progress in the next couple of days so stay tuned and pray for all those affected by this weather event.

  1. If the overhead from having the plant down was, for example, $150,000 a week, and repairing the damage was a $200,000 cost, would you a) fix it immediately or b) wait until the new year? The sense of urgency here is probably immeasurable.
