Back in August, we brought you the unfortunate news about a dealer installed option that got footnoted in the Corvette Order Guide as “Not available at this time,” which is GM-speak for them having no idea when this will become available again.
The option was the Illuminated Front Crossed Flags Emblem which was first introduced in 2026 but then paused in the Order Guide as “Not Available” and that stuck throughout the model year. Chevrolet brought it back for the 2027 model year and this time we know that 48 examples made it out of the Corvette Assembly Plant before the $695 dealer-installed option was halted once again.
Thanks to our friend Mike Furman, we finally got to see one in these photographs, and now the FOMO is real: These are awesome!
Mike had a customer who ordered an early 2027 Corvette ZR1 that made it out of the plant with LPO R88 and he just posted these photos to Facebook showing the installation procedure which does require drilling a hole in the front fascia. A black template is also shown in the photos which we assume gives the technician the exact location of where to drill.
With us being able to see this now for the first time, how cool would it have been if the light surrounding the badge could be changed like those kits we see on Amazon that allow you to customize the LED color.
If you remember, once upon a time Chevy was also offering Illuminated Sill Plates for the Corvette Stingray so there was some sort of exterior accessory lighting strategy that GM was working on. But like the cross flags emblems, those sill plates got yanked in 2021 and never returned due to a supply issue that was never resolved.

100% not worth the price. 100% would order it on mine in a heartbeat…just so I have the plug harness and hole–to allow for easy aftermarket customization.
I also agree about aRGB being desirable. “white” just isn’t what I want all the time. But let’s face it–GM doesn’t care about these things. They could make a boatload of money if they sold wheel lights, lighted sills, etc–all with aRGB. Hell, I would pay $3500 right now just to have factory ambient lighting throughout the cabin (actual lighted, diffused strips–not just flood lights in the foot wells).
GM would rather arm-wrestle carbon fiber suppliers whilst offering vaporware options…than go with a simple, easy, readily available method to make money on upcharging for options. The fact that they’ve already offered it on the 6th gen Camaro and a host of Cadillacs…makes it all the more a puzzling omission.

Yes, when I placed my order in for the GS, it was available at the time, but within my ordering process, it wasn’t available anymore ;(…Please bring it back so I can have it installed during the assembly…Come on GM!!
Just another light to burn out. I put this in the same league as purple neon lights in the fender wells.
I have one on my Chevy Blazer and even my wife likes it. I’d totally add it to my Corvette.
It looks nice. That is all.
