Jackpot!

As we have been talking about the last half of the week, the Corvette Team is in Colorado and with multiple C8 Corvette prototypes and it was only a matter of time before we got a money shot like this!

A member of the Facebook group C8 Corvette Owners (and Friends) shared two videos (only one which we can embed) of a camouflaged C8 Corvette prototype believed to be the 2022 Corvette Z06. The prototype was wingless and features the center-mounted exhaust that was first seen on the test cars back in June outside the Milford Proving Grounds.

Dylon DeBaca is the original poster of the video and said, “Here’s the 2nd prototype C8 Vette we saw this morning. I believe he was sitting waiting for a computer or diagnostic system/something to reset before he pulled off again. Great music from the mid exhaust, though. Most likely a ZR/Z06 or Grand Sport, because base models would likely be dual exhaust. 2nd post today, I feel special. Thanks for the good feedback guys.

The first prototype he came across had the exhaust pipes in the corner of the car like the Stingray, however, check out these side rocker panels on the car, which also had its wheels and brakes hidden from view. Do these rockers point to these prototypes having a “wider” body than the Stingray?

That’s a great sighting from Dylon. According to Google, Loveland Pass is at an elevation of 11,990 feet so they are way up there! I just heard from some another reader about another sighting so if you see any testing going one, let us know!! You can see those new C8 Corvette prototypes pics here.

UPDATE
Thanks to Dylon for sharing this second video. It was actually his first sighting, before spying the Z06 prototype above. He does a walkaround the car and then the driver takes off and heads down the road:

  1. See tester with camo all the time out here, so far my luck is usually been small Hyundai’s and Kia’s or other ecoboxes, but common. Good Catch!

  2. These are good catches. Clearly the somewhat uncovered Camo Vette is a 2021 or 2022 and whether Z06 or not, the two exhaust tips, left/right respectively are not the central exhaust pipe system on what is obviously a Z06. There sure are a lot of haters with regard to the implied Z06 exhaust. There may be noise limits that Chevrolet has to deal with that are imposed for which they must test. It would be a waste of money to test loud or crazy exhausts, if they can’t sell them. I’m sure that GM has a lot of different methods of testing the varying exhausts and there still is a long time left before the actual car is released for sale. If people like race cars for the street, the Z06 is going to be just that. Not the top, but a high percentage of those owing standard or Z51 Stingrays, can’t handle them. The Z06 will take that percentage several steps further. I hope we don’t have a spate of accidents once the Z06 is released. My hat is off to those who catch these test cars! AF

  3. It looks as if there is a split window design or beam at the rear of the car underneath the camoflauge.

  4. This is interesting as this could be a ZR1 version as per rumors it will be a twin turbo. The smaller exhaust pipes next to large ones may be a way to keep the noise of the blow off valves to a minimum. One so no one will be able to here it is turbo charged!? A real possibility since we have seen and heard one with stand exhaust that screams like the C8R.
