[VIDEO] Summer Camp Filled with Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Kicks Off at the NCM

Where were camps like this when we were a kid?

Some fortunate youngsters are getting to spend a few days this week at the inaugural “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” summer camp at the National Corvette Museum, and video posted by the Bowling Green Daily News seems to show they’re having a blast.

Naturally, the camp kicked off with a visit through the Museum itself, but the campers also are slated to visit the Historic Railpark & Train Museum and Aviation Heritage Park before all the fun comes to an end on Friday.

NCM Education Coordinator Deb Howard said besides the tour of the Corvette Museum, the kids also participated in some STEM activities that included a visit from an expert on how asphalt is used to make the roads around Bowling Green. They also learned about street and pedestrian safety vs. driver safety.

The Warren County Public Library also talked to the youngsters about the history of transportation.

Howard said about 20 kids signed up for this year’s inaugural camp, and they’re hoping for even more next year.

“This is our first year doing this camp … so we’re getting a feel for it,” she said. “We worked closely with the other two attractions, so we’re hoping this will continue in the future as well.”

“We’re happy to have our campers here, and we’re happy to be doing something for our Bowling Green community that benefits everyone,” Howard added.
