Plasan's ZR1 Carbon Fiber DisplayPlasan, the supplier of the carbon fiber body panels for the new 2009 Corvette ZR1 gives us a cool illustration of exactly how much each of their parts weigh and the results are rather surprising. The vertical wall display shows the panels hanging against a full size cad wire drawing of the new Corvette hotness with each of the parts “installed”. Click the photo for a larger display.

  • Hood: 12 Pounds
  • Fender: 4 Pounds
  • Roof: 13 Pounds
  • Roof Bow: 3 Pounds
  • Rocker Panel: 1 Pound
  • Front Splitter: 1 Pound

Add up the weights (accounting for 2 fenders and 2 rocker panels) and we’re still under 40 pounds. After seeing the display, it makes you wonder what the weight savings would be if the ZR1’s complete exterior was done in Carbon Fiber. Of course, that would drive the price of the uber-vette even higher as the General would need more of that $60,000/gallon carbon fiber coating to protect the panels from harmful UV rays.
