In the late 1970′s the 3rd generation Corvette was languishing thanks to an aging platform and new government emissions and fuel economy requirements. Eager gearheads would do just about anything to make their ride stand out from the crowd. Enter customizer Les Dunham and the Corvette Caballista. His Dunham Coach Motor Car Company built just 50 Caballistas between 1977 and 1982. The example seen here is a later model based on 1982 Collector Edition Corvette.
One of the draws of SEMA is that you know you are going to see some cool custom cars and in our opinion, one of the best custom vettes on display at this year’s show was Rod Saboury’s 1963 Split Window Corvette he calls “Black Widow”. If Rod’s name rings a bell, it’s because Saboury was also the man behind the World’s fastest street Legal 1963 Corvette drag car which we featured just last month.
When you think about Corvettes, going muddin’ is usually not the first thing that pops into your mind.
But a couple of guys named Dan Linden and Tom Hahn are quickly putting a halt to that kind of thinking.
They’ve constructed the Mud Slinger, a 4×4 atop a gigantic set of tires and sporting the look of a 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe.
We came, we saw and we survived another great week at the annual SEMA show. We’re leaving Las Vegas Friday morning to fly across the country and so we thought this would be a great time to drop our photo gallery of Corvettes on display at the show.
We threw a picture of this 2007 Corvette Z06 up on our Facebook page last week and since it got a tremendous response there with nearly 500 likes, we figured it was worth a more in-depth review. Besides, we love double-threat custom as much as the next guy. Not only does this Corvette Z06 feature a gorgeous exterior, it also received some serious engine mods as well.
The guys at D2FORGED sent over these pics from their latest photoshoot. The subject being a Cyber Gray Corvette Z06 with D2FORGED MB1 wheels. I just love the contrast that black wheels provide against Cyber Gray and the way the small touches of red trim on the lug nuts and center cap accent the red calipers.
Paul Corneau of The Corvette Shop in New York has a really unique 1963 Corvette, or should we call it it a 1963-67?
He built his one-of-a-kind car with parts from three different cars, mostly 1967 body parts, though he did keep the split window from a ’63.
Corneau calls it his “Mythical ’67 Corvette.”
Well, folks, we can say without a doubt that this is not the latest leak from a General Motors supplier showing a sneak peek of the C7 Corvette!
Apparently, it’s just what happens when someone has some spare parts left over from a C5 Corvette and a couple of fourth- and fifth-generation Mustangs and mixes some good bodywork skills with an overactive imagination.
There are a lot of custom Corvettes out there. When it comes to these cars, we owners love to personalize them in infinite ways. Some of these modifications turn out really well and others don’t quite have the same appeal. This 1988 coupe currently for sale Ohio fits into the latter category.
