Alfa Romeo Just Released a Nurburgring time for a Sedan. Can We Get the Corvette Z06's Time Now?

Did you hear about the latest Nurburgring ring time recently released by an automotive manufacturer? No, it’s not the time for the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 which put down its laps in May, prior to a ban on manufacturer lap times. It was an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sedan which recently made headlines with a 7:39 time around the 12.9 mile Nordschleife.

Alfa Romeo released the time as well as some other performance specs during last week’s opening of the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

So can we please have our video, press release and most important, the Nurburgring lap time for the Corvette Z06? Pretty Please?

The situation with the C7 Corvette Z06’s Nurburgring lap time is quickly becoming a fiasco for Chevrolet.

Autoweek’s rumor yesterday from an anonymous source proclaiming the Z06’s lap time to be 7:08 has supposedly been debunked by another anonymous source from a competing media outlet, Road & Track.

[RUMOR] Did the 2015 Corvette Z06 Lap the Nurburgring in 7:08?

Ever since Corvette’s Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter said the 2015 Corvette Z06 had completed a timed lap at the famous Nurburgring track in Germany, Corvette fans have been waiting (and waiting) for Chevrolet’s marketing department to release the video of the run. In the meantime, the incredible vacuum of silence has been filled with rumors and speculation about the 650 hp supercar’s time.

Nurburgring Lap Time for the C7 Corvette Z06 Completed and Video Coming Soon

How about some good news to share!

After two aborted attempts to record a hot lap on the 12.9 mile Nurburgring, the 2015 Corvette Z06 returned to Germany last month and was finally successful in getting a continuously-timed lap. Apparently, the team is more than happy with the lap time they got from the Z06 at the “Green Hell”.

That bit of news came directly from Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter who shared the tidbit of the completed lap during his weekly “Ask Tadge” question and answer posts on the Corvette Forum.

Tadge was asked about the design philosophy of the C7 Z06 vs the previous C6 Z06 which was lighter and was considered more of track car than the generously appointed C7 version. The answer is quite detailed and you can read the full reply there. But here is what Tadge said about the Nurburgring time:

[VIDEO] 2015 Corvette Z06 Testing Again on the Nurburgring

Despite all the awards and accolades that the Corvette Z06 has received since its arrival in 2014, there has been something missing from its marketing toolbox that has become almost a requirement for any sports car that wants to play on the world stage – a timed lap at the Nurburgring.

Hopefully, we’ll be able to put a checkbox next to that item in the coming weeks as it looks like the boys from Detroit are back in Germany for another try.

Chevy Debunks Report of a Corvette Z06 Lapping Nurburgring in 6:59.13

Team Corvette has a Nurburgring problem.

After testing the new Corvette Z06 at the famous 12.9 mile track in Germany last year, circumstances which include a crash and rainy weather stopped the team from laying down a complete timed lap. Instead of staying in Germany and making it a priority, the team left town and that has ceded the conversation to others.

Corvette Enthusiasts 'Do the Math' to Calculate the Corvette Z06 Nurburgring Time

One of the modern validation points for benchmarking performance among sports car fans has become the car’s ability to put down a fast lap around the 12.9 mile Nurburgring in Germany. The Corvette Z06 has been there two years in row and in each occasion, the ability to lay down a complete timed lap was thwarted by the weather.

During a recent Question and Answer session hosted by Jalopnik with Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter, Tadge said they would only make public a fast lap that was complete and captured on video as opposed to offering a pieced-together “segmented time” which is what he says was all they have due to the weather. Of course, crashing the Z06 on the ‘Ring doesn’t help either.

Tadge said the Corvette Z06’s lap time at VIR’s Grand Course was 2:41.3, beating the C6 ZR1 by 4.3 seconds and then he threw down the challenge about the Nurburgring time which has been accepted by several members of the Corvette Forum – Do the Math!

[POLL] What Will the Corvette Z06's Nurburgring Time Be?

Germany’s famous Nurburging. 13 miles of ups, downs, twists, and turns affectionately referred to as the Green Hell. Over the last decade automakers have used ‘Ring lap times as a means to define the performance of their latest creations. Back in 2011 Corvette test driver Jim Mero lapped the Nordschleife (“North Course”) in 7:19.63 in a C6 ZR1. But what will the new 2015 Z06’s lap time be?
