German-based tuner Loma Performance takes the term “wide body” to a whole new realm with its “BlackforceOne” Corvette package. The only thing that falls flat here is the press releases comparison that this Corvette is somehow “reminiscent” of Boeing’s Air Force One. Clearly the Corvette is more of stealth fighter than passenger jet with its 783 hp bi-turbo V8 engine and copious carbon fiber body parts.
GM released the figures yesterday for November 2009: 952 Corvettes were delivered in the month, a decline of over 200 units from October 2009′s 1,154. Year to year, Corvette sales are down 12% from the 1,093 deliveries in November 2008. For the calendar year (Jan-Nov 09) 12,901 Corvettes were sold compared with 25,647 sold over the same time period in 2008. That’s a decline of 49.7%.
Autoblog had the rare opportunity to visit GM’s Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan where they worked along side master engine builder Mike Armstrong to assemble an LS9 engine. The PBC is unique to GM’s other engine assembly centers as each engine is assembled by hand from start to finish by a single engine builder as opposed to sending the engine down an assembly line where multiple workers add the same part over and over.
Adding a Nitrous Oxide system to a Corvette is a quick and cheap way to get an additional 50 or 100 horses, but it comes with risks as one unlucky C6 Corvette owner found out.
Camaro’s Marketing Manger John Fitzpatrick was working the floor at the SEMA show last week when our Man in Vegas showed up. Fitzpatrick was gracious to give us a tour of the new Genuine Corvette Accessories on display. Showcasing many of the new accessories is a Cyber Gray 2010 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible outfitted with the Heritage package.
Thanks to our friend Berry Lowman, we have photos of the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport that Chevy took to SEMA to showcase a new lineup of Genuine Corvette Accessories. We see several of the new accessories listed in the Chevy press release like the “Tech” patterned engine covers and interior console trim, but we also see a new 7-spoke chrome wheel with a Corvette logo insert on display as well.
Thanks to Patrick at DigitialCorvettes, the 7-spoke wheel has been identified as the same chrome wheel found on the Hertz limited-edition Corvette ZHZ.
The new accessories will will be available from Corvette dealers early next year.
GM released the October sales report today that shows 1,154 Corvettes were delivered last month. This is a decrease of 27% over September’s 1,585 deliveries and 1.4% off October 2008′s sales of 1,170. For the calendar year (January-October) 11,949 Corvettes have been delivered, a decreased of 51.3% from the 24,554 Corvettes sold over the same time period in 2008.
Earlier this year, Chevrolet announced the return of the Corvette Grand Sport model. It’s a track-oriented Corvette with wider wheels and tires, special suspension tuning and unique exterior details. The Corvette Grand Sport achieves a 0-60 time of less than four seconds, pulls 1.0 g on the skid pad and still boasts an EPA-rated highway fuel economy 26 mpg. GM is now at the 2009 SEMA show in Las Vegas where they announced a slew of cool accessories for the new Grand Sport.
The General has put out a video showing what Chevrolet has in store for the SEMA show which kicks off next week. While the video is heavily devoted to gratuitous shots of the new Camaro outfitted in Synergy Green, we do see the new 2010 Corvette Grand Sport teased. Stay tuned for more SEMA coverage next week!
Even though Specter Werkes first introduced the C6 GTR last summer, they have continued to make improvements to the package. Now that SEMA is just around the corner, the Troy, Michigan-based tuner has unleashed perhaps the best variant yet to the GTR family – this one featuring BASF Blue Pearl paint, HRE Carbon Fiber wheels and a twin turbo LS7 V8 courtesy of Lingenfelter which produces a mind-blowing 800 horsepower. The Specter Werkes GTR Corvette will be prominently displayed outside the Las Vegas Convention Center as a feature car for HRE Wheels.
