The Classic Corvette Club UK held their 30th Anniversary Nationals show recently and corvette owners turned out to display a variety of the classic American sports car from all generations. Like most shows, participants entered Corvettes ranging from stock through modified, race cars and recreations. Some of the customs are very well done and so we thought a pictorial feature would be nice to show what our brothers and sisters from across the pond are doing to their Corvettes.
Barrett-Jackson’s inaugural Orange County auction went pretty well despite being held the same weekend as Mecum’s Bloomington Gold auction. The choice of Corvettes at the OC auction was on par with previous Barrett-Jackson events as the docket contained a nice mix of classics, resto-mods and several late model Corvettes. At the end of the three day no-reserve auction, the sales from the 31 Corvettes combined for $1,799,300.
Corvettes from various years returned to the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed held in England on July 2nd-4th. Although Chevrolet had a 2010 Corvette ZR1 on display as well as a new Camaro, it was a 1963 Grand Sport Corvette Coupe that stole the show.
Here are some real world photos of the C6 Corvette-based Rossi SixtySix from its appearance at the Bloomington Gold Corvette show last weekend. While computer renderings are cool in all, it’s refreshing to see a car actually live up to the hype.
Almost two years ago the world was introduced to the Rossi SixtySix, a C6 Corvette refitted with custom panels that borrow some of the best design features of the 1963-67 Sting Rays while updating the mid-year look for the 21 century. No longer just a dream, the Rossi SixtySix project is tooled up and well underway with the first car, a Pearl White Split Window Coupe making its public debut this Sunday at Detroit’s EyesOn Design benefit.
As an automotive buff and especially as a Corvette enthusiast, I love to look at the drawings made by members of the GM design studio as they sketched out new designs and ideas for America’s sports car. Before you could buy a Corvette, GM’s studio artists first had to sketch it. And now thanks to Route 427′s “Art in Motion”, you can own some of the most iconic automotive artwork ever produced during the heyday of automotive design.
Friend and CorvetteBlogger sponsor Terry Michaelis of Proteam Corvette sent us this great photo today of these two GM Style Corvettes. Both of these unique midyears are new editions to his collection which is billed as the largest in the world. Terry picked up the “Ozzie Olson” 1964 Corvette Coupe on the right at the RM Auction in Fort Lauderdale in March for a cool $160,000. Then in mid-May he bought one of the top 10 collectible Corvettes available – Harley Earl’s personal 1963 Corvette Roadster – which he paid $925,000 at the Mecum Spring Classic auction last month.

This Corvette has also received awards from the local Corvette club shows.

The Corvette Dream Giveaway has made a splash over the last couple years with their series of unique Corvette raffles that has raised a lot of money for the Kids Wish Network. Today we learned that the Corvette Dream Giveaway has returned for 2010 and this year the raffle will pair a 2010 Brad Paisley Hero Edition Corvette ZR1 with a 1967 427/390 hp Corvette convertible Sting Ray.
At last weekend’s American Le Mans Series at Monterey, Chevy and Corvette Racing took the time to honor the men and their Corvettes who were the trailblazers for today’s Corvette racing program. On hand for the celebration was Dr. Dick Thompson (aka The Flying Dentist) who drove the #2 Corvette at the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans and Dick Guldstrand who raced with Bob Bondurant in 1967. These two legends told some incredible stories of their exploits and you can watch the videos after the jump.
