Keith Martin and his panel of Corvette experts will return to Scottsdale this January to discuss the topics essential to understanding today’s collectible Corvette market. The seminar will be held Thursday, January 21 at the Barrett-Jackson Auction.
Mecum’s Kansas City auction was held Friday and Saturday at the Kansas City Convention Center and the results were very favorable. Of the 46 Corvettes on the sales docket, 37 were sold which is a 80.4% success ratio. For a reserve-based auction, this is very good. Total Corvette sales for the auction was $1,096,750.
Mecum’s final auction of the year will be taking place this Friday and Saturday in Kansas City at the Kansas City Convention Center. Forty-four Corvettes are on the auction dockett and along with a host of classics and near classics you find at any auction, Mecum has included these two Karl Kustom C6 Corvettes.
GM released the figures yesterday for November 2009: 952 Corvettes were delivered in the month, a decline of over 200 units from October 2009′s 1,154. Year to year, Corvette sales are down 12% from the 1,093 deliveries in November 2008. For the calendar year (Jan-Nov 09) 12,901 Corvettes were sold compared with 25,647 sold over the same time period in 2008. That’s a decline of 49.7%.

While rally wheels were standard equipment on the 1967 Corvette, there was an optional wheel offered for the final year of the Sting Ray. RPO N89 was designated as “Cast Aluminum Bolt-on Wheels” and 720 buyers selected the pricey option, adding an additional $263.30 to the invoice. Fast forward 40-some years and now an original set of Kelsey Hayes sells for big bucks. How big? How about $20,000!
GM released the October sales report today that shows 1,154 Corvettes were delivered last month. This is a decrease of 27% over September’s 1,585 deliveries and 1.4% off October 2008′s sales of 1,170. For the calendar year (January-October) 11,949 Corvettes have been delivered, a decreased of 51.3% from the 24,554 Corvettes sold over the same time period in 2008.
Back in the late sixties, Joel Rosen and his Motion Performance speed shop was the go to place on the East Coast for serious automotive performance. Joel had partnered with Baldwin Chevrolet on Long Island to build turn-key street racers out of new Camaros, Novas Chevelles and Corvettes. During the years of 1967-74, hundreds of Motion-branded cars were built including this ultra-rare 1 of 1 1972 Moray GT Corvette which is now being offered on eBay.
Remember that custom 1968 Corvette we featured on our Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Results post? Turns out the telephone bidder who paid $198,000 for the 510/660 hp roadster was none other than Sylvester Stallone. He apparently has already taken possession of the vette and was seen cruising Santa Monica in Beverly Hills.
Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2009: Corvette Sales Top $2.14 Million
By all accounts, the 2nd annual Barrett-Jackson collector car auction at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas was a success. Corvette pricing was strong and bidding was solid. At the conclusion of the three day auction, 29 Corvettes had crossed the block and sales totaled $2,142,250 which includes the buyers commissions. Click through to see the Corvette Results.
The top selling Corvettes were actually a pair of Corvette ZR1s. A 2009 velocity yellow Corvette ZR1 was paired with a Bright Red 1990 Corvette ZR-1 and the duo combined for $205,700. The top selling individual Corvette was a Red 1968 custom Corvette roadster powered by 660 hp V8 that sold on Friday for $198,000. In addition to the high performance 510 cubic inch engine, the Corvette featured a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, Baer brakes, Boyd Cottington wheels as well as a custom interior. We also witnessed the 1967 Corvette owned by Bruce Willis hammer for $150,000. With the buyers commission, the total sale was $205,700.
