New 2019 Corvette Special Edition to be Revealed at the Rolex 24

As Chevrolet prepares to close the chapter on the C7 Corvette generation, they appear to have one final gift for enthusiasts – a new C7 Special Edition.

No public announcement has been made regarding a Special Edition model, but if you look close at the agenda of events happening at the Corvette corral for next weekend’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, you would see an event scheduled for 11:30 am on Friday, January 25th for the “2019 Corvette Special Edition Announcement at the Chevrolet Experience”.

Another great event is in the books after our friends at Mecum wrapped up the world’s largest collector car auction in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Chevrolet Corvette was well represented with a total 365 Corvettes available for sale during the 10-day auction event. Of those cars, a total of 236 Corvettes were sold which represents a 64% sell-through rate for the model. The combined total for Corvettes sold during the Kissimmee auction was $14,527,700.

The film was shot in and around Salt Lake City and it’s described as being part Corvette retrospective and part travelogue featuring great roads and experiences.

One of the highlights is this 10-minute road test of the 2019 Corvette ZR1 with both hosts clearly having a great time behind the 755-hp supercar.

Will the mid-engine C8 Corvette have a dual clutch transmission?

Well, Road & Track says the evidence is pointing that way more and more every day. The magazine is reporting that an employee newsletter from the supplier of a machine used to produce a DCT transmission for GM seems to indicate that General Motors and Ford may be sharing such a gearbox from Tremec, with the newsletter speculating that the C8 Corvette and the Mustang GT500 would be the lucky recipients.

The event annually welcomes 5,000 or so journalists from all around the world and 750,000 public spectators over its 2-week span. This is where the auto industry goes to show off their latest and greatest offerings. After all, it’s where the industry began.
