First Retail 2020 Corvette Convertible Raises $400,000 for Charity at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale

This Black 2020 Corvette Stingray Convertible may have been built last year, but today it finally received the recognition it deserves as the first customer-produced C8 Convertible in the C8 era. GM offered the Stingray convertible as a charity auction at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale sale on Friday afternoon. With much fanfare, the Corvette was hammered sold for $400,000 with 100% of the proceeds going to the United Way For Southeastern Michigan.

For being an old race car, this 1960 Corvette has generated more than a number of headlines following its rediscovery in a St. Petersburg, Florida warehouse back in 2012. Since then it was said to be stolen and then its ownership claims were subjected to a number of lawsuits. This long strange saga of the former racer could finally be coming to a close. The latest news is that the ex-Le Mans race car will headline the RM Sothebys auction at Amelia Island this May.

In fact, back in 1976, the John Greenwood “Spirit of Le Mans” Corvette ran from the pole position at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

GM Suspends Dealers From Submitting Any More 2021 Corvevtte Sold Orders

General Motors sent a new memo to Chevy dealers today telling them that due to the overwhelming response to the 2021 Corvette combined with the unexpected downtimes at the assembly plant, dealers can no longer submit sold orders starting on March 26th. GM says it’s doing this to avoid false expectations and disappointing customers in the process.

Shorter version: We don’t want a replay of 2020 where customers with orders didn’t get cars.
