Our friend Rick ‘Corvette’ Conti featured this C8 Corvette owner’s modification on his weekly Coffee with Conti video on his YouTube channel and I just have to share it with you. You’ve heard of the old Corvette saying “wrap your ass in fiberglass?” Well how about wrapping your engine bay with an automotive vinyl wrap!

We have previously seen some owners wrap their engine bay with a carbon fiber wrap which helps to dress it up, and while the end result is nice and all, it isn’t a mod that would be noticeable immediately.

But check this one out. Rob Bass of Tom’s River, NJ owns this Silver C8 Corvette Coupe and he decided to cover his engine bay with a silver vinyl wrap to match his body color and I think the results are amazing. When you think about that back area and how dark it is with the composite surround, this mod really brightens up the rear. And with the Silver LT2 engine cover installed, it’s a cohesive look that really draws your attention to the mid-engine’s “jewel under glass.”

The wrap extends the body-color silver into the engine bay, and we like how the labels that are located on the surfaces were duplicated on top of the silver to give it an authentic factory look. Rob told us that the entire cost was about $500, so it’s not a project that will break the bank.

As far as maintenance goes, we’d like to see how these rear engine bay wraps clean up after a car wash or if the car is caught in the rain, and the only other potential issue we can think of is if the heat from the rear engine compartment would cause the wrap to peel or bubble. Conti asked that question as well to the owner who says so far it’s holding up nicely.

We imagine this engine bay wrap would look good on nearly all the different exterior colors but my feeling is that the lighter exterior, the better the results. We’ll just have to see if an Accelerate Yellow or Rapid Blue would have similar results like this Silver C8 Corvette. Another thought might be to go Silver on a Black car as well which might be too much of a contrast, but it might be worth exploring especially for those that have the silver racing stripes installed.

Thanks again to Rick for sharing this mod. I am sharing his video below which features additional photos and a quick video showing the installer covering the engine bay. The action starts around 3:25 so give it a watch and then let me know what you think of this unique engine bay mod in the comments below.

  1. I was actually the person that came out with the original “Wrap Your Ass in Fiberglass” t-shirt in 1975 to promote my business. It had my 1963 Corvette Coupe Drag Racing Car on the front and our business logo on the back. We sold the shirts all over the world! It was on the line of being objectionable at that time and I actually got stopped going into Disneyworld with one on and they made me put it on inside out!

  2. Thats a slick mod! Id be curious how it would hold up to the higher temps in there, but all in all, cool mod!
