If you want to light the door sills on your 2021 Corvette, you’ll have to resort to the aftermarket.
The Corvette Action Center reports that Chevrolet has told dealers that the Accessory Illuminated Sill Plates (RPO VST) won’t be available during the 2021 model year and must be removed from all customer orders because of a supply problem.
The Sill Plates thus join the high-wing spoiler and car cover as C8 accessories no longer available, though after months of waiting, we were finally able to buy an official GM high-wing spoiler through a private company last week so there is hope.
Some outlets on the Web surmise the Sill Plates could return as an option in 2022, perhaps once the manufacturer gets past what are assumed to be COVID-related production problems.
In the meantime, if you’d like to protect your current Sill Plates from the inevitable scuff marks caused by your shoes, we’ve been well pleased with the clear plastic Sill Covers we purchased last week. They definitely look better than the old towels we had been using to protect the sills since buying the car in July!

Where did you get the plastic sill covers for your 2020 Corvette? My 2021 has just been built, #1056, and I’d sure like to get them as soon as possible Had them on my C-7, and C-6 and they’re great.

Gee, Mustangs have had sill plates that light up “Mustang” for free even on the stripped down models for years (at least my 2011 had them). Not to mention the ability to change the color of the instrument lights to one of 256 colors…

Don’t know about clear plastic protective covers for the C8, but I just bought some this month for my C7 and after quite a bit of comparison shopping the net, Southern Car Parts in Atlanta had the best price, with a holiday discount and free shipping. They look and fit great. Get a set from your supplier of choice for your car before you’ve scuffed up the sill plates.
Thanks a lot. I had them on my C-7 and my wife has them on her C-6. They do a good job. I’m old and getting in and outs results in dragging my feet across the sill and they’re needed.
Come on GM, get it together already. You have a vendor problem.

Which C8 Car Cover is no longer available?
The great news is my dealer called and my 2021 Corvette Convertible Z51 is is in! I went to see it unloaded. Vin 750. I live in Indiana and it is strongly suggested not to drive it below 40 degrees. It was 20 today. I ordered the illuminated sill plate was bummed to find out I did not get it. No notice to me or the dealer. I ordered some carbon fiber parts and black lug nuts. They said maybe a couple of weeks before get the parts. Picking it up Saturday.
Why must the sill plates be discontinued for the entire model year?
