With the word coming from Vehicle Corvette Chief Engineer Josh Holder that the 2027 Grand Sport and Grand Sport X represents the completion of the C8 Corvette model lineup, attention is starting to focus on what comes next for the Corvette.
While we may have originally been looking at the sports car moving to an EV platform, luckily it appears that bad idea has pushed back and we’ll see the next generation of Corvettes powered by traditional pushrod V8s. In fact, we believe one really positive aspect of the C9 has already arrived in the form of the 409ci LS6. The new LS6 – introduced this year for the Corvette Stingray and Grand Sport – will most likely serve as the powertrain bridge to the C9 Corvette at least for its base model.

Now MotorTrend is taking a closer look at what the C9 might look like and they say the biggest changes will be visual with their sources telling them it will be heavily influenced by GM’s Advance Design Studio’s Corvette CX Concept car. The C9 version will be softer and more refined than what we saw when the two concepts – The Corvette CX and the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo – were revealed at The Quail event during last year’s Monterey Car Week.
Indeed, we’ve already seen some digital artists create renderings of the CX Concept fitted onto the C8’s aluminum frame and the results are pretty stunning.

MotorTrend is saying the C9 Corvette will make its debut in 2029 as a 2030 model. That model will be the base Stingray and then Chevrolet will follow through with its higher performance models that includes Z06, ZR1, & Grand Sport as the generation moves forward.
Over the years, Chevrolet has introduced a variety of high-performance sports cars powered by a number of various power plants ranging from naturally aspirated V8s, to those vehicles that have been supercharged, turbocharged, or featured a hybrid power-assisted all-wheel drive. So, it’s no telling what kind of advancements we’ll see during the C9 generation now that engineers have the experience and familiarity with all these technologies.
As for when the cars do go on sale, we’re probably a far cry from them extreme affordability that was the hallmark of the 1st year C8s that went on sale in early 2020 and started at $59,995, Today’s base Stingray is approximately $73,495 and while it’s really too early to predict the starting prices for these next generation models, MotorTrend expects a starting price for the base C9 to start at $78,000 while a “King of the Hill” C9 could go for $220,000.
With the talk of the C9 Corvette now entering the conversation, it’s time to start the next savings account targeting the Summer of 2029 and the reveal of the C9 Corvette. But don’t wait until then to get on your favorite dealer’s list while you still can.

Been saying that 2029 would be the earliest MY they would offer one. GM not abridging the 2028 75th AE livery by over-hyping the C9–would certainly lend itself to a 2030 launch. Lord knows they couldn’t help themselves on overshadowing the E-Ray for its entire run. Hopefully they learned a lesson.
It still won’t matter to me much. AWD variant probably won’t come out until year 2 or 3–and then it’ll still take 12-24 months to actually become available. That’s potentially 2035 when I could get my hands on an AWD C9. 9 years from now.
On top of that, it would have to be a revolutionary amount of weight savings, improved features, or looks–to truly dissuade me from just keeping an ER or GSX. Everyone seems convinced–as I am–that the C9 will be evolutionary and not revolutionary. So the wait won’t really be worth it. And I won’t buy Corvette without AWD. There’s just too many other options–some with far better finish and amenities–if constrained to RWD.
While I really like the looks of it from the front and side views, I think that the oversized ugly ass rear diffuser needs to go. It looks hideous!!!
At the rate of true inflation, base price will be closer to $100,000 making a moderately equipped Sting Ray going for $120,000 and a Z06 at $200,000 plus hype/ADM.
I hope the model and production year “guess” is accurate. My plan has been to get to order a C8 ZR1X before the model switchover. A C9 “King”could be better, but the many-year wait to get one would just be way too long. If something goofs up my C8 ZR1X plan at least I already have a 2026 ZR1 “bird in the hand”.

I love the F-458 body style sim to C6. Just Clean lines. Look at Porsche, they havent change in 30-40 yrs. Make a no boy racer, sharp lines body PLEASE GM!
