Sports car enthusiasts in Australia can find no better than the Chevy Corvette C8.

That’s the word from the new-car specialists at CarExpert, who recognized the C8 as the Best Luxury Sports Car at the 2026 CarExpert Choice Awards, the annual automotive awards ceremony of the Australian media outlet specializing in the local industry.

Lest you think it was a fluke honor, the Corvette won the same award last year.

General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV), which oversees Chevrolet’s presence in Australia and New Zealand, celebrated the repeat win.

Back to back recognition from CarExpert is a tremendous endorsement of Corvette and everything it represents for Australian sports car enthusiasts,” said Jess Bala, Managing Director of GM Australia & New Zealand. “Corvette continues to deliver the performance, design and sense of occasion that make it truly special.

CarExpert praised the Corvette for its blend of supercar performance, precise handling, and compelling value, noting that it delivers the drama of an exotic without the exotic brand price tag. The publication highlighted several key strengths:

  • Mid engine layout that gives the C8 exceptional balance and razor sharp dynamics
  • Naturally aspirated small block V8 character that remains unmistakably American
  • A cabin that feels “more premium” than past generations
  • Factory right hand drive, built directly at GM’s Bowling Green plant
  • Hybrid AWD E Ray option, adding even more punch at the top of the range

In a segment where luxury often overshadows livability, CarExpert emphasized that the Corvette offers both — “exceptional dynamics plus surprising refinement and luxury appointments that elevate the American icon higher than ever before.”

Since arriving in Australia nearly five years ago, the C8 has become the centerpiece of GMSV’s lineup. Its factory built right hand drive configuration was a first, making the Corvette more accessible — and more appealing — to Australian drivers than ever before.

CarExpert’s judges summed it up simply:

The Corvette “competes with European sports cars on performance, but keeps a distinctly American personality. For buyers wanting theatre without moving to an exotic badge, it stands out.
