At least he was friendly…
A pursuit that began as a simple speeding stop in Orange County turned into a chaotic, two county chase Wednesday, ending when an Accelerate Yellow C8 Corvette hardtop convertible plowed into an SUV and a tree before officers finally arrested the driver.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver refused to pull over and instead guided the roof down Corvette onto multiple freeways, weaving through traffic and even waving at officers as they followed. The car appeared to be running on paper license plates.
After more than 15 minutes on the freeways, the driver exited the 91 Freeway near the Downey–Norwalk area and headed into Compton, where his driving grew increasingly reckless. At one point he nearly rear ended a stopped vehicle.
CHP units backed off once the Corvette left the freeway, but Torrance police briefly picked up the pursuit. When they disengaged, the driver pulled into a gas station and parked. Officers arrived moments later and attempted to take him into custody — but he hit the gas again, this time with the convertible roof half raised, bouncing over a sidewalk and nearly spinning out.
With officers trailing, the Corvette blew through a red light, narrowly missing cross traffic, then made a U turn and became stuck in congestion. In a final attempt to escape, the driver jumped the curb, slamming into an SUV and then a tree, leaving the Corvette wedged against the trunk.
This time, instead of waving, the driver lifted his hands — and his phone — as officers approached. After a brief standoff, he was removed from the car and arrested.
No serious injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.

Question:
“Hot Rodders” have been running from police probably since cars were invented, sometimes successfully many times not, are more Corvette drivers attempting this in the past couple decades.?
Most likely it is like other things now, just easier to hear about because of the internet, but could it be because the Corvette demographic has changed somewhat or because Vettes are so much faster now.?
Maybe there are actually less car chases, I have no idea, but thought it might be a fun topic to get a couple opinions. : )
