The driver of a C3 Corvette T top coupe was lucky to walk away after a violent rollover crash in California on Sunday afternoon.
According to Clovis Police, the Corvette struck a tree at high speed before flipping onto its roof. When officers arrived shortly after 5 p.m., a bystander had already pulled the driver from the wreckage, and he was waiting outside the mangled car for paramedics.
Police told Eyewitness News 47 that neither weather nor impairment played a role in the crash.
“At this time of day, we did not have fog,” a department spokesman said. “But people who drive at those kinds of speeds and recklessly like that put others in danger, not just themselves. Fortunately, no one else was injured today and everyone was able to walk away.”
Officers said the driver escaped with only scrapes and bruises — a surprising outcome considering the damage. Video from the scene shows the Corvette’s front end torn apart, with the fenders, bumpers, and hood ripped completely off and the engine fully exposed.
