Some cars just say “fun” the moment you lay eyes on them, and this Panama Yellow 1958 Corvette convertible on Bring a Trailer is absolutely one of those machines.
One onlooker summed it up perfectly: “Wow, I would even look good driving this—and I’m pretty ugly.”
Self deprecation aside, there’s nothing unattractive about this Corvette. In fact, many enthusiasts consider the ’58 to be the most distinctive model of the entire C1 generation. Its one year only styling—complete with a louvered hood and chrome trunk spears—makes it instantly recognizable and highly sought after.
This example stands out even more thanks to its rare Panama Yellow with white coves exterior paired with a charcoal vinyl interior. Only 455 of the 9,168 cars built in ’58 shared that shade of paint.
Under the hood sits the jewel of the era: a 283/290 horsepower fuel injected V8 backed by a four speed manual transmission. As seller Corvette Mike puts it, this was “the hot setup at the time and still highly desirable today.”
The car underwent a full restoration about 16 years ago and has continued to receive careful attention since, including mechanical updates in 2022 and repairs to the tachometer cable and horn in 2023.
Corvette Mike believes the original owner had a singular mission: go fast. That would explain the absence of a radio and heater—creature comforts sacrificed in favor of performance. The buyer did, however, opt for both tops, giving the car hard and soft top versatility.
With three days remaining in the auction, bidding has already reached $65,000, and interest is clearly building. For collectors who appreciate a beautifully restored, rare color Fuelie from one of Corvette’s most iconic years, this one checks all the boxes.
