[ACCIDENT] C8 Driver Claims Medical Episode Led to Crash with a Pickup Truck in Colorado

The thrill of driving off in your newly C8 Corvette convertible can be hard to describe — unless, of course, you immediately crash it into a parked vehicle.

One Colorado driver unfortunately lived out that exact nightmare.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the owner of a freshly purchased C8 — still wearing a temporary tag — lost control Friday afternoon, jumped the curb, and slammed into a vintage pickup in the 20 block of North Union.

Photos from the scene show the Corvette’s nose wedged beneath the classic truck, with scattered pieces of the Chevy’s front end littering the pavement.

Thankfully, no one was hurt. The C8 Corvette’s driver, Charles Smith, was cited for Careless Driving.

However, the story doesn’t quite end there as the driver is claiming to have experienced a medical episode when he lost control.

“As we went over Pikes Peak, my eyes went crossed, and so I saw a place to turn in… and I don’t remember nothing else,” said Smith.

Smith’s female passenger in the Corvette was unhurt following the crash. “And when I came to, I looked over, and I said to the girl, are you ready?” and she said, “What the hell are you talking about? You just crashed this car.” I said, “I didn’t crash”. And she pointed and said, “Don’t you see this car on top of us? said Smith.

Some medical professionals have suggested that Smith may have experienced a seizure, but so far there has been no official diagnosis.

Suzanne Triplett, the owner of the shop where the accident occurred has also spoken about the crash.

“I heard it, and I thought it was an explosion. My husband was sitting and working just feet away from where the crash occurred. He fell out of his chair.”

The pickup truck is owned by a friend of Suzanne’s, who claims that had the truck not been parked where it was, Smith’s Corvette could have crashed into the building and caused injury to her husband.

“We hardly have anyone ever park there where the truck was that day. If the truck wasn’t there, my husband probably wouldn’t be here today.”

Hmmm — regardless of whether the cause of the crash was careless driving or a seizure, taking away his license might be the prudent course.

The actual cause is known as “Heavy Foot”. Linked to an inexperienced brand new C 8 Corvette driver trying to impress his female passenger. Not ready for how fast a C 8 accelerates. He also thinks it will buff out.
