So much for my skills in predicting the future…
Today is the start of the 2025 December Order Cycle with allocations arriving at dealers this morning. Of course, we were really hoping to hear a lot more this morning about the 2026 Corvette ZR1X. After all, Chevy has been following the same playbook as it did back in March when ZR1 orders reopened.
Here is what’s been happening this week with the ZR1X:
We got our first look at the fuel economy numbers (even if they came from Canada), the ZR1X Configurator is now showing pricing and not the “See Dealer for Pricing” message, and Chevy even sent out a customer email promoting the ZR1X configurator just as they did the same week for the ZR1 orders. GM has even made plans to send a special “one of one” ZR1X to Barrett-Jackson for a charity auction in January.
With all this news dropping just in the last four days, we thought the stars had aligned and believed it was all but certain that dealers would be getting ZR1X allocations today with the mix of other models.
And yet, no dealer we reached out to this morning has received any ZR1X allocations. One even told us the model wasn’t mentioned in today’s release.
But this is where the ZR1X news gets weird…we know for a fact that GM is building retail versions of the Corvette ZR1X this week!
First, we heard earlier from our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com that two ZR1Xs came off the assembly line on Monday even as public tours were happening. The first ZR1X off the line was a Blade Silver car and that was followed about 10 cars back with an Arctic White example.
Today we learned that two more ZR1Xs are in the mix, and it has been confirmed that these are not Captured Test Fleet (CTF) Corvettes…these are retail orders. The first is VIN number 004 ZR1X and it’s a Black/Black car currently at 3800 Status (Produced!) as of today. This Corvette has MacMulkin Chevrolet listed as the dealer. The second ZR1X doesn’t have a VIN showing, just an order number. It’s currently sitting at 3300 Status (Scheduled for Production) and it will be a Blade Silver Coupe. The dealer for that car is Don Mealey Chevy in Central Florida.
The Chevy rep who sent me this asks, “Not sure how these dealers are getting allocation but cars are being pulled. It’s like a secret allocation process, both are retail stock units.”
Sounds more like Double Secret Allocations if you ask us!
We have previously witnessed how the ramp up times in production for these high-performance cars were painfully slow at the very beginning, so instead of pushing a large allocation number out to the public, perhaps GM is simply assigning these first allocations to dealers directly who then complete the ordering process. Doing it that way allows the process to be even more tightly controlled by Detroit, plus the added benefit of not having customers and bloggers crying about lack of aero or not enough colors available on the 10-piston Alcon brakes.
As for the other allocations that were granted today, we saw plenty of Stingrays and Z06s, while another dealer told us they got more ZR1s than E-Rays.

I was at the Museum on Dec 9, picking up my car. We had a VIP plant tour as well. The Guide told us that they had seen ZR1X’s on the line that morning. I think the number was 2. We were told that Rick Hendrick had purchased VIN #1.

I hope they start making ZR1Xs in large numbers – ZR1s too. The way I see it, if GM makes enough to bring actually retail prices to sticker, the Corporation can sell many and make more money. Now, with the build number low, GM doesn’t get much while the dealer enjoys their rip-off ADM.
ER’s are being artificially throttled so that GM doesn’t bankrupt its parts supply for the ZR1X.
Good move. Not much demand for E-Rays vs. ZR1X today. Go with demand…
