Should someone take away this guy’s Corvette key fob?

That’s the question after an “unlicensed, uninsured, adult male operator” managed to wedge a 2024 Corvette Stingray onto the C Line tracks in Brookline, Massachusetts south of Boston on Wednesday night.

Already juggling scheduled repair work and plenty of “bustitution,” the MBTA scrambled to add more buses between Cleveland Circle and Coolidge Corner to make up for the shutdown of the tracks. Riders were stranded for nearly two hours until just before 9 p.m., when a wrecker finally hauled the sports car off the rails and service resumed.

The 20-year-old driver told authorities he was “unfamiliar with the area and took a wrong turn.” Transit Police Supt. Richard Sullivan said the man will be criminally summoned for numerous motor vehicle violations. His reaction was priceless: “Corvette, yikes!”

The incident unfolded at Marion Street, near Summit Avenue, knocking out the C Line and, arguably, dinging the reputation of Corvette drivers everywhere.

Cars on the tracks aren’t unheard of in Boston – especially along the B Line, where older Toyotas, Kias, and the occasional BMW sometimes wander into trolley territory. But a 2024 Corvette Stingray? That’s apparently a first.
