If you read our post on Monday in which we suggested that allocations were coming for the ZR1X this week, here’s another breadcrumb for those waiting to order the upcoming Corvette supercar: We now have partial confirmation of the fuel economy ratings for the 2026 Corvette ZR1X!
Now, granted, these first figures do come from Canada and their NRCAN agency (Natural Resources Canada) which is their equivalent to the USA’s Environmental Protection Agency, and we can compare their figures to the ZR1 in helping us determine what the ZR1X’s gas guzzler tax will be.
Just in case you need a quick recap, Chevrolet’s ranging-topping Corvette ZR1X takes the ZR1’s twin-turbo V8 and adds an electrified front motor and a similar battery storage system to the E-Ray for the resulting power rating of 1,250 horsepower and 973 combined lb-ft of torque. That compares to the ZR1’s 1,064-hp rating with 828 lb-ft of torque.
So how did the ZR1X perform for the NRCAN fuel economy ratings? Right off the bat, it looks like the hybrid-assisted Corvette ZR1X is slightly more fuel efficient than the ICE-only ZR1 despite the hybrid powertrain developed for performance as opposed to range. These figures are based on Canada’s fuel consumption metric of “liters/100 km.” The 2026 Corvette ZR1X Canadian ratings are:
• 19.2 L/100 km City
• 12.7 L/100 km Highway
• 16.2 L/100 km Combined
Remember that Canada uses a metric for fuel consumption, so City driving would account for using more fuel than highway driving. Luckily for us, the NRCAN website allows us to convert these numbers to the Miles Per Gallon standard we use here in the USA, so those numbers for the 2026 ZR1X become:
• 12 MPG City
• 19 MPG Highway
• 15 MPG Combined
That’s slightly better than what we see from the ICE-only 2026 Corvette ZR1 at 12 MPG City/18 MPG Highway/14 MPG Combined. These Canadian figures are exactly the same as the EPA ratings for the ZR1.
As the ZR1X and ZR1 are both similarly rated to the Corvette Z06’s (w/ Carbon Aero pkg) fuel economy at 12/19/14, it’s probably safe to say that the Gas Guzzler Tax in the USA for the 2026 ZR1X will come in at a similar tax as charged to the Z06 aero package and the ZR1 -> $3,000.
We had the opportunity last week to ask a GM’er about the fuel economy ratings after we saw that the gas guzzler tax for 2026 Corvette Z06s with the base aero had reverted back to being $2600. When asked where they were with getting the fuel economy numbers certified for the 2026 Corvette ZR1X, we were told they “Should be available very soon.”
We are still waiting for the EPA to drop the fuel economy numbers for the ZR1X, but that shouldn’t stop GM from dishing out allocations this Thursday and then opening the order banks next Thursday to accept ZR1X orders.

The best mileage I ever attained on my 1971, Stingray, 454ci, 365hp, 4-speed, factory exhaust side mufflers, regular fuel, Steel Cities Silver, Black leather interior was 13mpg. It is important to note that gas was $0.35 /gallon! Another important feature is that in the summer I could not drive it with cloth tennis shoes. The heat from the driver-side exhaust manifold was very hot.
