Corvettes for Sale: Two-Owner 1965 Corvette with 365-hp V8 Offered on Bring a Trailer

For more than four decades, one man and one Corvette were inseparable.

In July 2007, the original owner finally parted with his beloved 1965 convertible, selling it to KC Classics. A year later, ProTeam Corvettes took possession, and by fall 2008 the current owner had found “the one.” Now, after 17 years of careful stewardship, he’s passing the torch to a third private owner, offering the car on Bring a Trailer. Bidding has already reached $23,250 with six days left on the clock.

Unlike many classics, this Milano Maroon over Maroon Sting Ray comes with a remarkably detailed history. Custom ordered in October 1964 and delivered in March 1965 to Longville Garage in Minnesota, its provenance is confirmed by the NCRS Shipping Data Report.

The seller recalls beginning his search for a C2 Corvette in 2008 with guidance from nationally recognized expert Al Grenning of CCAS, LLC. After rejecting another Sting Ray at ProTeam, Grenning zeroed in on this convertible and declared it “the one.” The advice stuck. “I’ve been enjoying it ever since,” the seller says.

For the past 17 years, the car has been meticulously maintained by Josh Blakeney of JB Performance LLC, a Corvette specialist who knows the car inside and out. He’ll even be following the auction to answer technical questions.

Under the hood, the numbers matching L76 327/365 horsepower V8—paired with a four speed manual transmission—has been updated with a PerTronix Flame Thrower ignition coil. In 2024, extensive maintenance included a new starter, rear main seal, timing cover gasket and seal, harmonic balancer, engine mounts, intake manifold gaskets, heater hoses, and lower radiator hose.

Cosmetic work has kept pace with mechanical care. Around 2000, the car was refinished in its original Milano Maroon and reupholstered with maroon bucket seats, door panels, and carpet. The carpet and seat foam were refreshed again in 2021.

The current owner even reached back to the beginning, contacting Bob S., the original buyer, who shared vintage photos—including one from August 1965 at Leech Lake, Minnesota—and stories of driving the car daily for its first decade. That use led to the first engine work in 1975.

In a world where many classics lose their paper trail, this Corvette stands apart. Sixty years on, its story can still be traced straight back to its roots.

  1. What a stunning car. I have always felt that the L-78 motor was one of the top three small blocks ever produced, (the other 2 being the DZ-302 and the ’70 LT-1) If this car had side pipes it would be hard to resist.
