When she bought this black 1977 Corvette as a dealer demo in Rochester, New York, disco was king and gas was less than 50 cents. Nearly five decades later, it’s still in her Hilton Head garage—barely broken in at 24,000 miles.
That’s 500 miles per year. A monthly Sunday drive. A lifetime of restraint that borders on tragedy when you consider what’s under the hood: the L82 engine option, the hotter of two 350s available that year, backed by a four-speed manual that only 2,060 buyers spec’d out of 49,213 produced. This was a car built to eat miles, not count them.
The Corvette’s one moment in the spotlight came in 2021, earning “Best Woman Owned Car” at the Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance. Black paint still gleaming, rare red leather interior still supple, T-tops ready for coastal cruising that rarely came. Even the period-correct luggage rack seems optimistic, waiting for road trips that never materialized.
“All this car needs is TLC and to be driven,” she writes in her Craigslist farewell. “I just don’t have the time anymore.”
After 48 years of careful preservation—of choosing protection over participation—she’s ready to let someone else turn the key. Here’s hoping they give this L82 what its first owner couldn’t: the open road it’s been waiting for since Carter was president.

The ask is pretty darn reasonable for a C-3 with this mileage and condition. Pretty car.
I like that it’s black over red and that it has the L-82 engine. It’s pretty nice. I’d have it.
I like it my first new corvette I purchased was a 77 L82 , loaded!
Is it still for sale and how much
