By afternoon, the seller yanked the listing with that cryptic “no longer available” message that usually means someone made an offer too good to refuse, though we’d be shocked if someone paid the “Buy It Now” price of $98,500.
This Texas-titled survivor wasn’t winning any concours, but that’s what made it so enticing. Non-matching engine? Sure. Seats that needed love? Check. Paint showing its age? You bet. But underneath the patina sat that legendary split-window profile and a frame the seller called “really good”—code for “you can actually restore this without bankruptcy.” The dash looked right, the trim was all there, and most importantly, it ran and drove.
These are the finds that make collectors lose sleep: rough enough to afford, solid enough to save, rare enough to matter. Someone out there just scored their dream project. The rest of us are left refreshing eBay and wondering what might have been.

Only nostalgia can drive the prices for cars like these. Later generation corvettes are empirically better in every way.
The buy-it-now price is a joke. This car needs a full restoration. The flared rear wheel wells, meant for bigger tires, tell that this car was a race car that was ridden hard.
Emotional nostalgia is right… Over a year ago a 78 year old friend bought a cosmetically nice, nearly original 1962 Corvette with both tops. The car has a 4 speed, manual brakes, manual steering and no A/C (important for Florida). Shortly after that, he had knee surgery that didn’t go well. Still has some pain. Just getting in and out of the car he finds difficult. Mucho buyer’s regret now… He’ll be brooming it soon. There are many stories like that. I don’t have a museum and will get by just fine without a C2 as I continue to enjoy driving my C8.
