Bugs Bunny used to joke that he made a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

Some folks might think this customized 1967 Corvette convertible – up for sale on Craigslist for $65,000 in a small New Mexico town north of Albuquerque – took a similar turn, too. They might even argue that it’s a little cartoonish.

Others, however, may agree with the current owner that this vintage Sting Ray is a “very nice beautiful car” – at the same time, a declaration of war against every Bloomington Gold judge who ever lived and a true “Milner Salute” to the purists.

First, the details, what little there are. A wide-body kit coated in a provocative shade of dark purple, complemented by a white soft top and a pair of wide pearl white stripes stretching from front to back. Aggressive side pipes. 12-inch rear Torque Thrust wheels. A 383 stroker with Hooker Competition headers, unbaffled and, in the words of the seller, “very loud.” An M22 Rock Crusher four-speed manual transmission. What more do we need?

Sadly, only five photos of the car are included with the listing – none of the interior, but what we can glimpse from the outside seems to be stock-looking black seats and dash, but with an aftermarket gauge mounted proudly on the center stack.

There’s lot more we’d like to know about this car, but in an era where unmolested survivors and trailer queens are rather common, this Sting Ray chose a different path – measured in decibels and tire smoke instead of factory chalk marks.

Maybe Bugs Bunny was headed in the right direction, after all.

  1. Seems like a lot of foldin’ money for clearly what can only be described as a face only a mother could love. Would have been somebody’s sweetheart in 1970!

  2. Not every car can be, or needs to be Bloomington Gold quality. There’s enough Corvettes around to have all different kinds.
