1984 Corvette VIN 001 broke cover after many years this past spring with just 277 miles showing on the odometer. After emerging from the deceased owner’s garage, the milestone Corvette was promptly treated to a spa day courtesy of the team at WD Detailing.
With the car now in tip top shape, it went up for auction last weekend out of the Gonyer Collection through Carrick Auction on Saturday, November 8th. Prior to the in-person auction, online bidding was available starting at $100,000. That tall number brought all sorts of feedback both here and on our Facebook page.
Now that the auction has concluded, the Carrick website indicates that C4 VIN 001 found a new home at $110,000. That’s most likely a world record for a 1984 Corvette and certainly at the top end for any C4 in general. Currently we don’t know who purchased the white over red C4, nor do we know where it’ll be heading. We wouldn’t be surprised to see it again, though, at one of the big auctions in January.
Yes, $110k for a C4 certainly is big money. Let’s peruse some Bring a Trailer results and see where this sale falls relative to other C4 sales. The most recent 1984 sold on BaT was a 33-mile example that sold for $27,500. The vast majority of 1984 Corvettes tend to sell in the $10-$12k range with some sub-10k mile cars selling slightly below or above $20k. Zooming out to the entire C4 range, unsurprisingly ZR-1’s cover the top end of the spectrum here. The highest selling C4 ZR-1 we found on Bat was an ultra-low mile blue 1990 that traded for $101k. Several other 3-digit miles and low 4-digit mile ZR-1’s have sold north of $75k. A quick spin through Mecum’s results site reiterates what we’ve seen on BaT. 1984 VIN 001’s recent $110k sale eclipses all of those.

84′ #001 would look nice sitting next to the only 83′ at the Corvette Museum.
I have an 84, VIN 1710. Mine may not be nearly as nice as this one, but she’s worth just as much to me.
Value is what the buyer is willing to pay.
I’m sure the seller was expecting a lot more. Unfortunately the market for “special interest” and “classic” cars is beginning to deteriorate.
