The 63-year-old Corvette driver accused of causing a double-fatality accident in Florida will remain behind bars for the foreseeable future.
During a hearing Monday, Scott P. March, 63, testified that he bought a 2026 Corvette Z06 for over $200,000 on the morning of November 1, financing all but $10,000, but that he “didn’t really pay attention to the numbers” because he “just wanted the car.”
By 6:05 p.m. that same day, March was traveling 147 mph on State Road A1A in Ormond-By-The-Sea — a 45 mph zone — when he attempted to illegally pass a Jeep Wrangler.
Florida Highway Patrol data shows March hit the brakes just 1.5 seconds before impact, still traveling 110 mph when he struck the Jeep’s rear. The collision ejected Thomas Lauck, 72, and Julia Ann Lauck, 73, from their vehicle. Thomas died at the scene; Julia succumbed to her injuries five days later. Neither wore seatbelts.
The crash occurred in a no-passing construction zone near Lagerheads Bar and Grill during a busy weekend evening. Witnesses reported March driving “extremely recklessly” for miles, illegally passing and nearly crashing into multiple vehicles including an emergency medical vehicle captured on dash cam.
Two days post-crash, March’s unraveling continued. His roommate called police after March claimed to be “Jesus” and said it was “reckoning day.” Officers found him aboard a 120-foot yacht he didn’t own, insisting he planned to take it that night. After initially being given a courtesy ride home, March returned to the yacht and was arrested for trespassing.
Circuit Judge A. Christian Miller denied bond, stating: “It’s hard to imagine a set of facts that are more dangerous to the community than driving something that fast along a very heavily trafficked roadway.”
March faces two counts of vehicular homicide, each carrying up to 15 years in prison. His record includes a 2018 California DUI conviction.
The retired food service equipment developer, going through a divorce with two children in Illinois, had recently purchased a Florida condo. His public defender confirmed March would surrender his license and submit to monitoring if released, but the judge deemed the community risk too great.

This something I always say,they can buy a corvette but they can’t drive a corvette.Almost all Corvette accidents are caused bye the Corvette driver.Prayer for the couple who were killed by this fool!Unfortunately the couple didn’t have their seat belts on and that contributed to their deaths 😢
Hang him. Obviously his soon to be former wife knows exactly what kind of fool he is. Should get maximum penalty as an example for those that might even think about driving like that in any car.
Guy definitely deserves jail time and never allowed to drive again, but I suspect the 2 persons killed would probably still be alive had they been wearing seat belts. I wonder if they were also driving around in the Jeep with the doors off which I often see Jeep people doing. It seems odd that a rear-end collision would result in them being ejected from the vehicle.
200k for a 2026 Z06 is crazy. You can get a ZR1 for that money. The 2025 Z06s are going for 10-15k off MSRP, 110K -120k you can get one.

Not excusing his actions at all, but it sounds like he’s suffering from some sort of mental breakdown.
More Horsepower than Brains! We are seeing this way too often.
At 147MPH a vehicle is traveling at 215 feet per second.
The average driver does not have the reflexes nor mental capacity to manage that kind of speed. And yet, here we are, again.
GM/Chevrolet/Corvette should require a mandatory Special Driver’s Ed Class for all purchasers of Z06, ZR1, ZR1X, E-Ray, before they take delivery, personal opinion.
