We love to feature cool cars here and this video from Mike at Brink of Speed showcases a fantastic C8 Corvette ZR8X widebody. He had me at the thumbnail, but when he calls it the nastiest LS7 widebody in the country, I just had to hit the play button.

The car is owned by Mike’s friend Trevor from The Detail Lab, who says the build was 8 years of blood, sweat, and tears. But we think the end result is amazing, and the story about how it all came together is in itself a pretty cool story.

The car started off as a stock 2009 Corvette which he purchased in 2015, and shortly thereafter he was involved in a minor crash caused by a distracted driver. It was then that the idea of a widebody C6 Corvette got turning in his head, and he decided to use some inspiration from the Play Station video game Need for Speed Heat. Within the game, he actually used the visualization and build features as his own personal design studio and he created a virtual design that would be the blueprint for his 2009 Corvette as you can see here:

C6 owners have many choices with widebody kits, and Trevor says the ZR8X was his choice for the aggressive styling and rarity. Unlike some kits that require major surgery, the ZR8X kits were designed for easy bolt-on installation with minimal effort.

Trevor also upgraded the standard LS3 engine with an LS7 that features a DART 427 block, Frankenstein heads and low-pro billet intake manifold, and a cold air intake. Together the built produces around 700 horsepower at the crank and Trevor says that drivability with a major factor with the car.

Originally the car was finished in Cyber Gray, but as Trevor owns a PPF company, he used what he calls the latest technology in PPF which is a colored protection film as opposed to the traditional clear PPF. The process to do a car like this took over two weeks with every single exterior panel protected. That color, which we never caught on the video, is further enhanced with the White Forge Light wheels that perfectly fits the video game motif while also fitting perfectly with the show car’s widebody stance.

After 8 long years of blood, sweat, and countless late nights, Trevor’s dream build is finally complete — and it just might be the nastiest LSX widebody Corvette in America!

  1. That’s got to be a Fuscia wrap. Ugh! That wing would be great to put your pizza order on and eat off it. Otherwise, what is with these H.U.G.E. wings? Another Ugh! from me. It looks like the ricers have now moved on over to Corvette.
