Bet you can’t turn your eyes away from the final seconds of this Corvette’s life.
Perched atop a car hauler in Shertz, Texas, a viral video shows the dark red C6 convertible’s untimely demise after taking a direct hit from a charging locomotive Sunday morning.
Authorities say the hauler, heavy with its automotive cargo, had “high-centered” on the railroad crossing – unable to move one more inch as the train’s whistle screamed a final, futile warning.

In the interest of good journalism, ahem, I watched this video a few dozen times, well, maybe not that many, but enough times to notice that the hauler had nearly made it over the crossing, but the rear wheels couldn’t quite clear the tracks, likely due to the weight of the last four vehicles onboard, including the Corvette.
Camron M. Colwell’s video serves as a warning to others about the dangers of railroad crossings and also as entertainment for millions around the globe who watched the C6 soar through the air time after time, landing several feet from the tracks – a broken, beautiful corpse that no amount of buffing will likely fix.
The truck driver, phone pressed to his ear, perhaps to see if he’s going to get a write-up from his supervisor about turning a quarter-million dollars in vehicles into scrap, climbs out of the big rig and appears to be walking back to see what is going on, but luckily he reverses course and gets out of the way in time, calmly standing next to a utility pole as the train continues to roll past.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash, and the train didn’t derail. We wonder what the protocol for the engineers aboard the train – perhaps some of our readers can tell us if there is a special procedure to follow when you know you’re about to smash into something stuck on the tracks or do you just grab the “oh-****” handle and hang on?
The pavement at the corner of FM 78 and Schertz Parkway bears the aftermath of the crash with gouges caused when the truck and its cargo were dragged down the easement. It sounds morbid, but wouldn’t you like to see what the Corvette looks like now?

Obviously an inexperienced driver who made several mistakes the last of which, he had time to pull the pin lock which would have saved the tractor.
Terrible. Worked at a dealership that transport after transport used to loose tractor traction leaving 1 particular exit for this same reason. ‘High and dry’.
The bottom out trailer would lift the five wheels of the tractor just enough that there was insufficient traction to disengage.
Lot of these CDL issues lately.
There’s a phone number and position number on the crossbuck and gate or the electronic box located at the crossing to stop train activity if you get stuck on the tracks. One of the first things I learned when training for my CDL.
