Even if this 1982 Corvette survivor had 112,000 miles, it would still catch the eyes of onlookers with its super-rare Gold paint.
But add in the fact that it’s actually 12,000 miles on the odometer and the car needs absolutely nothing to head straight to the nearest show, and this last-year C3 Corvette grows even more intriguing.
After climbing from its hideout, the car is being offered on eBay in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the bid has hit $29,700, well below the “Buy It Now” price of $37,900, but more than three days remain in the auction for that figure to keep on climbing.
Originally listing for $21,611.52, this ’82 features $2,846.52 worth of options, including aluminum wheels for $458, AM/FM stereo cassette sound system (“nostalgic touch that still works!” the seller notes) for $423, electric rear window defogger for $132, electric twin remote sport mirrors for $125, speed control for $165, power antenna for $60, and the rare roof panel carrier for $144.
The description from the seller doesn’t exactly strike us as being from a Corvette expert, with incorrect details like the engine size (5.0-liter instead of the actual 350), seat type (cloth instead of the actual Camel leather), and wheels (Rallys instead of the actual optional aluminums).
We’ll forgive these errors, though, because the photos show a Barn Find Corvette that would be more aptly described as a Time Capsule Corvette. A quick glance at the Corvette Black Book shows that 12 colors and four color combos were offered in ’82, but out of the 25,407 T-tops built before the C4s debuted, only 648 were painted Gold, a one-year-only color.
As the seller correctly notes, “With mileage this low and originality this intact, this Corvette isn’t just rare – it’s museum quality. Most examples have long since been driven, modified, or neglected. Not this one. This is a car you show, cherish, and watch appreciate year after year.”
So that begs the question. If you were to become the owner of this Corvette, would you drive the wheels off it or park it in a bunker underneath your house?
