After 25 years with the same owner, this 1971 Corvette LT-1 T-Top coupe will soon have a new home.
This Brands Hatch Green over green vinyl beauty is being offered at no reserve in a Bring a Trailer auction, where the current bid has hit only $14,000. Five days remain for that figure to head northward, though.
The owner purchased the car in 2000 and immediately had the 350 LT-1 engine rebuilt, brake lines replaced, and wiring updated by a Corvette specialty shop in Kingston, New York. Then he stored it for the next 20 years, focusing his attention on the maintenance of his other cars.
Finally, in late 2020, he removed the LT-1 from storage and did an “extensive” rebuild, including replacing the seat covers, carpet, and door panels, repainting in the original Brands Hatch Green (with some paint drips visible in photos), and adding a Bluetooth-compatible aftermarket stereo. A 2021 service included a rebuild of the brake calipers and the rear suspension and drive axles. Since then, he has taken the car out occasionally for short trips and leisure drives since. When the speedometer cable broke in 2023 during one of these excursions, he returned it to storage.
He says all those drives over the past quarter-century total less than 500 miles, pointing out the car has been “more of a preservation project than a regular driver” for him.
The LT-1 engine – mated with a four-speed manual transmission – was offered in the C3 from 1970 to 1972, with 1,949 units built in ’71 with engines producing 330 horsepower with 360 lb-ft of torque with 9.0:1 compression ratio. The LT-1 featured solid lifters, a high-performance camshaft, and a 780 CFM Holley four-barrel carburetor and offered outstanding performance with the lighter weight of a small block as opposed to the big-block 454. Car & Driver clocked the LT-1 in 1971 at 6.0 seconds 0-60 mph, with a 14.57 in the quarter and a top speed of 137 mph.

That’s so stupid for someone to buy a cool Corvette like this and have it repaired and then just let it sit for twenty years!
I bought my 71 convertible new, same color, for $5,800! Fun car, but high maintenance. Still the best looking of all the series yet.
