The 1963 Corvette split-window coupe is already a rare car, with only 10,594 made in the debut year of the C2.
Add in a fuel-injected L84 327/360 horsepower V8, however, and you’re talking about an even more desirable car. Only 2,610 customers chose the L84 option that cost $430.40 – sounds cheap in these modern times, but back then it represented 10 percent of the base price of $4,252.
This example – built at the St. Louis factory the third week of June 1963 – also features the M20 four-speed manual transmission that added another $188.30 to the sticker price. Suddenly, this was turning into an expensive-for-the-time muscle car by the time it reached the original dealership.
Everything’s relative, though, and in 2025, the high bid on this Corvette has already soared to a high of $92,000 on Bring a Trailer, and there are still five days left in the auction.
The popularity of this Sting Ray with bidders isn’t surprising, though there is some concern among a few onlookers about the repop trim tag and an engine assembled more than three months prior to car build date that the naysayers worry could make this a “made” car.
Nevertheless, there is no doubt that this car – which has had the same owner for the past 18 years who says he has “enjoyed every minute of it” – shows extremely well inside and out with its code-correct Riverside Red exterior and red vinyl interior – both of which are in excellent condition, based on the nearly 300 photos and five videos in the listing.
Features include an AM/FM radio, power drum brakes, dual exhaust, and 15-inch three-eared knock-off spinners mounted inside Firestone Deluxe Champion thin-whitewall tires.
How high do you think this car will top out?

A “made” car is almost always a better car. A totally original car can never be a better car.
I’m surprised at how low the price is.
Love Corvettes got one that I re-powered & I installed a newly rebuilt 427 FE Ford Cammer single Holley 4160 with a 6 speed, runs great very fast, street driven runs 10:60 in the quarter, price is negotiable but don’t low ball me, I know what I got !
I HAVE LOVED CORVETTES SINCE I WAS 8 YEARS OLD! It was 1968 I saw the 1968 C3 !
I have a 1978 Corvette 25th Anniversary.
