You might call the ’64 Sting Ray “the Rodney Dangerfield of the Corvette world.”
After all, it doesn’t have the cachet of the first-year ’63 and its unique split window, or the technological improvements of the ’65 through ’67 models.
But that doesn’t mean a second-year C2 is not a great car.
Take this ’64 convertible up for sale on Craigslist out of Tacoma, Washington, with an asking price of $54,500.
Its numbers-matching 327/300 hp V8 engine should provide plenty of thrills, even if some enthusiasts might bemoan the two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Still, there are plenty of drivers out there who prefer the convenience of an automatic or just don’t have the muscle power to change gears anymore.
The new owner might still need to sign up for a gym membership, however. Even without the manual gearbox, this Sting Ray should provide plenty of chances to show off their muscles since both the brakes and steering are manual.
Still, the seller claims the car “runs and drives excellent.”
Based on the photos with the listing, it’s also easy on the eyes with its quadruple black nature – black paint, black interior, black soft top, black hardtop. The interior looks “nice” in the photos, and the “driver quality paint still shines and looks nice.” It’s also code correct Tuxedo Black, if you’re wondering.
All in all, the current owner says his Sting Ray is a “beautiful car that gets compliments and thumbs up everywhere it goes.”
