The owner of this 1966 Corvette coupe admits that it needs some work and even details some of the projects in his current Craigslist ad.
But with the number of “decent drivable coupes” available to restore growing smaller by the year, he says he’s sticking firm to his current $42,000 asking price.
With other more pressing business and vehicle projects over the next 18 months, he’s decided to part with this C2 Sting Ray that’s currently being stored at his Wisconsin cabin, where he spends most weekends and could show the car to an interested enthusiast.
The first photo on the listing is deceiving, he admits, because the stunning green paint “looks better in the pictures than it is.”
Perhaps 20 or 30 years ago, it was “a really nice paint job,” but now it just “looks good from a distance,” with flaking in some areas and lots of dings, scratches, and fiberglass flaws, including some he’s even shared in close-up photos. The original paint was Milano Maroon.
“A person could possibly touch up the worst spots,” he says now, “but it really needs to be stripped and redone.”
The doors align and shut nicely, and the seller says the car doesn’t appear to have ever been in a major accident. The glass and chrome trim, including the bumpers, are likewise said to be in “good” condition. The car sports a “good” set of 1967 Corvette Rally rims with new GM center caps and “newer” BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport tires and has aftermarket side pipes and mufflers that are rusted out, though the heads “seem okay.”
Other notable areas that will need attention are the headlights and headlight doors that are not working, and neither are the brake lights and the emergency brake. He believes the frame is “solid” though because of a previous rust-proof coating, it makes inspecting and detailing the undercarriage more difficult.
On the bright side, the engine is said to run “strong” – with a “newer” Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold plus an HEI ignition. He even offers to text a video of the car running. On the other hand, he’s not sure if the engine is numbers-matching.
The seller rates the interior as “driver quality, mostly original … with some typical flaws,” but “most” of the gauges work, including the speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure, fuel, and temp.
All in all, we’ve seen a lot worse. Do you think it’s worth taking a gamble on this Sting Ray that needs some tender loving care as it hits its 60th birthday?

The posting has been removed. Clearly not an original engine, it probably was butchered over the years, if the frame was solid, itt could be worth $40k, might make a good restro mod!
That’s a very good price for a coupe.
