[VIDEO] Corvette ZR1 Settles the Debate with Roll Races Against a Tesla Plaid

Back in early July, one of the first C8 ZR1 owners took his car to Orlando Speed World and raced four exotics including a Tesla Plaid. During that best-of-three race, Wheeler posted his best time of the day with a run of 9.85 at 141.11 mph versus the Tesla Plaid which rocketed to a 9.25 second run at 150.73 mph.

A commentor on that race pointed out that one way to have your dreams broken is drag racing in July and that seemed to be the case. On that day, the temps were 90 degrees and the DA was 2127, according to the Dragy. It’s Central Florida so the humidity was off the chain as well. Others suggested the ZR1’s big wing was slowing the car down. Regardless, the Tesla Plaid did what it always does, and that’s making its opponents look slow.

Mike from StreetSpeed717 is also a new 2025 Corvette ZR1 owner and when he compared his Dragy times to what he is seeing from those drag races, he asked a friend with a Tesla Plaid to come visit him for some friendly pulls against each other and settle this debate once and for all.

Mike’s car has been modified as he has a FabSpeed custom exhaust and he removed the high wing which makes the car much sleeker. The Tesla Plaid is a 2022 model year and its owner has raced against Mike before in a number of cars including a C7 ZR1.

The two cars face off against each other in over 10 runs varying from 40 mph to 140 mph and the Tesla hangs seems to hang on for a second or two before the ZR1 just pulls away. When the Tesla did jump one of the starts, the ZR1 had its hands full trying to reel him back in.

During the after-action report, both Mike and his friend stated how they had no idea how it was going to go, and both had refrained from trash talking ahead of the race. Mike also got to drive the Tesla back to his shop and showed what its like to do a couple of “silent pulls” in the electric sedan.

The ZR1 showed its power, but Tesla’s strength would have been launching from a dig. Mike appears to have called out Brooks and his channel DragTimes and so perhaps there will be another ZR1/Plaid matchup in the near future. But let’s not do it in Florida…

  1. They did 15 races and the plaid won 6. We do not know the state of charge after all these races. Furthermore no one can control the weather, if you’re waiting for Goldilocks weather to be close to the plaid that’s a joke it’s much easier to charge the car than control the weather

  2. Oh my, A heavily modified sports car barely beats a stock sedan in a race, we are all shocked.

  3. The ZR1 is slow. Stop making excuses about weather. No one is going to wait “for the right conditions” to do a race. You’re either fast or your not.

The Plaid is the fastest car out there for the money. It’s stupid to pay over $150k, let alone anything above $200k for a “supercar” when you can spend a whole let less with a Plaid and get a smack ton more performance out of the box, and still carry a whole family and your groceries around. Seriously…what a joke Chevy is.
