Last week we were in Texas for the Corvette Invasion show, and it’s true what they say about everything being a bit bigger in Texas. This was a big show, and it was fun seeing so many great looking Corvettes together, as well as some of the displays that enthusiasts had set up. Check out our photos below and you’ll see what I mean!
The Corvette Invasion show was one of the best organized shows I have attended. Shawn Jones and his volunteers had a plan for parking the 350 registered Corvettes at the Bastrop Convention Center and it went off flawlessly. The Friday night reception was a lot of fun with a live band, food, and drinks. I spoke that night about being your humble CorvetteBlogger and again, I really appreciate the opportunity to featured there. Another speaker appearing on Friday night was Corvette Racing ace Ben Keating and his number 33 Corvette C8.R that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023. So cool to finally meet Ben in person!
On Saturday is when the car show action got underway. There were 350 registered Corvettes and Shawn tells us they had to cut it off several weeks back because of space constraints. The featured model this year was the ZR1 and they had over 40 ZR1s lined up from C4 to C7. No C8s yet unfortunately, so hopefully we’ll see them and the new ZR1X at next year’s Corvette Invasion. The organizers set up the parking so that the C1 to C3 classics were all grouped together at the front of the show. One of the featured displays with the classics included 1957 Roadster that trailered a small 1950’s era fiberglass boat in matching turquoise.
Some enthusiasts went all out by decorated their cars and their parking spaces! One guy even had an inflatable house that served as a spooky garage with red lighting to highlight his Black-Widow themed C8 Corvette. And talk about some really cool C8s, there were there in abundance! One of our favorites was the “E-Ray X” that was customized with a ZR1-style hood, Lambo doors, and a full Z06 aero kit in visible carbon fiber on it. A coupe others included two C8s with fighter jet liveries…one was painted to resemble the Navy Blue Angels while the other was decked out as a USAF jet and it’s used to transport cancer patients to their chemotherapy appointments. It featured the “tail number” of YRIH-2 which stands for “Your Ride is Here.”
We were able to do a Keith’s Choice award for the show and ours went to a brother/sister team who brought their dad’s 1966 Corvette drag racer out to the show. It had been stored for 50 years but they recently put some work into it to get it running again, and hopefully they will keep it as is because it was such a cool story! And speaking of awards, Corvette Invasion featured 101 awards with some owners pulling in multiple awards for their cars.
There was a minute of engine revving on Saturday morning in honor of service members and first responders. The noise made by those revving their Corvettes was incredible:
It was also cool seeing so many friends at the event as well. Steve Garrett of the Corvette Today Podcast was there and he gave a seminar on Saturday morning. Also attending was Rick ‘Corvette’ Conti who ran around like a madman with his camera. Mike Brink and his gang from Octane Hour were there, as was our friend Clarence Garner whose been working to make it out in Hollywood these days. Another special guest was the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile!
I really can’t say enough good things about the Corvette Invasion show. Thanks again to Shawn and his crew and we hope to see you again next year! The only thing that could have made it better is if I could have my E-Ray there for the show.
