Cars have an asking price … and then a more realistic selling price.
Would you pay $115,000 for this 1963 Corvette Sting Ray that still needs a ton more work?
That’s what the owner of this vintage Sting Ray is asking on eBay for this former barn find that’s further described as a one-owner California car.
The seller promises it will be “easy” to take this car the last lap, with several new parts already in place – including Firestone bias ply tires, wheel cylinders, Al Knoch carpet, center arm rest, windshield, and complete exhaust system. The asking price also includes new U-joints and wheel bearings that will still need to be installed by the new owner.
He points out that this Corvette already “runs and drives,” which should be a given for a car carrying a price tag of more than $100,000. The listing includes a video of the 327 engine running, but that’s without an antifreeze hose hooked up . Meanwhile, the underhood presentation is weak, to say the least, with a patchy coat of orange paint on the engine that is surrounded by a collection of ratty-looking parts around it.
Some enthusiasts also won’t be thrilled with the automatic transmission, instead of a four-speed manual desired by many.
As one person said in the comments, there’s just not enough meat on the bones to pull off the remaining work that remains to be done, including a new paint job since the existing coat of Saddle Tan is peeling in spots and not very shiny overall. A look inside reveals carpet that is definitely not new in the rear compartment as it shows signs of wear, the driver’s seat has a couple of holes in the bolsters, and the clock is missing in the center stack.
Split window or not, it’s hard to justify a price tag this high on a car of this caliber, don’t you think?

$115,000 for this thing? Oh hell no!!!
WOW, what a deal $115,000 plus tax. $250,000 to restore over 4 years. For $365,000, you get a base engine, automatic, ugly color Corvette to enjoy. Let me think about this for a while before I hit the buy it now button
This is crazy you could buy a new hellcat for cheaper and it wouldn’t break down all the time and for a 327 who cares this car should be 60k max lol vettes are lame and slow outdated cars anyway
Uuuuhhh……no!
I treated myself to a 63 convertible I bought from a Northwest Airlines pilot it had $35,000 miles on it and of course he had to show me his log he tied me up for 2 hours and I had the cash in my pocket he put it in the Minneapolis Star and Tribune want ads 63 Corvette convertible for sale so I zoomed the airport found him and went to hand him the money so I could take off and go drive it but no I had to spend hours and hours with him and I’m so glad I did what a great guy he was so we had a great time he told me all kinds of great Aviation stories and I told him I was a motorcycle guy so we talked about that and then he I said oh my gosh my girlfriend’s I got to get going here I’m going to be late to date with my new car and he says well you can’t go yet there’s something you have to take with you and I said what he says yeah I come into this hanger and I thought oh great a bunch of Collectibles t-shirts all kinds of junk I’m going to get now and they’re over in the corner was that big ugly hardtop an option for idiots like me in Minnesota to drive a Corvette in the winter at least you could be kind of warm that’s 63 was a terrible car I commuted back and forth between Minneapolis and Cedar Rapids Iowa for about a year and a half two years up and down rough Tulane Highway no freeways running along the river I had a ball in there but it was ever on a night or day except a few cops and they just let me go to like the cars but that car was hot noisy uncomfortable s***** suspension for the performance that it had nowhere on the trip was there a straight away more than a couple of miles and then I’d be out and probably run over some cows or something so I never hot rodded it a bit ever and then I started driving to getting in and out of a 28 times a day as a cars is a Salesman and I thought this is stupid and so I parked it in front of a movie theater one day went in and saw the manager for his order for advertising I came out in a big truck must have backed up and smacked the whole front end was cracked I just went this is it and I’m embarrassed to tell you what I bought next so I won’t so now the 63 is gone I’m sure I got paid money for it so I could buy another car I bought another motorcycle I was starting to collect motorcycles now it’s already up to six so that came an obsession that ended up having 66 Motorcycles in a museum in Milwaukee you could have a free beer for me if you came to my museum not those wokie f**** down there at the lakefront you know the original Harley guys Willy Pease news pants he was a total a****** lazy piece of pot smoker did nothing for the company could have done so much what was his claim to fame the boat tail and now there can’t beer than s*** but back then it was a cafe racer I built three years before will the Yamaha rd350 full Road Race fairing clip-ons rear sets dick cycle West camber the start of the fairing folks beautiful nice folks all California entrepreneurs that started from nothing like my favorite friend in the world Mike Corbin can you imagine Mike Corbin if he would have built seats for Harley when he started they’d still be in business oh aren’t they out of business well I bought the f****** stock when the IPO came out at $12 immediately started dropping and then on Tuesday 4 days after the IPO it started going up and never stopped you know me times it split two for one and then I bought in again at 36 rotor up to $81 and then again I don’t want to it’s like when I bought gold I don’t want to tell that story too early too soon too silly should have kept it still going to 11 motorcycles on and on and on I’m going to write a book then you can choose to not read it all right we should send you a picture here can I
Seriously? This looks on step from Pebble Neach. Actually it l9oks like its been ON the beach, possibly in the surf for a bit. But new wheel cyl’s and u-joints? That alone must have been TENS of dollars. Also, new bias plies. Seller is biased for sure! I thought maybe I was looking at an Icon Derelict! But no… just a derelict.
Not only “NO” but hell no, and for quite a few other reasons: besides being in extremely Ruff condition 👉 Automatic 👎👉 What HP is the engine?? 250 HP?/300 HP?, I definitely know it’s NOT a 340 HP and most definitely NOT a 360 HP FUELY and is it a 👉NUMBERS MATCHING CAR👈 This is a prime example of “ELUSION’S OF GRANDGER and drinking the “COOL AID” (GOOD LUCK WITH THAT) and on eBay: DUBBEL UPSIDE
Even if it was a numbers correct fuelie with a 4 speed would I pay that.
It’s still a very collectible corvette and will bring a premium price. People who buy this car don’t care about the cost to restore it because they want a piece of history and they probably have a collection of vintage cars. The price is all about supply and demand.
Replying to Brian, and your saying all that to say what🤷🤷 oh never mind can’t make sense out of Insanity ie 👉 I’m fully aware of game and as for you, you’re entitle to your opinions and that’s all they are (PERIOD) there’s an A$$ for every seat / more money than brain’s bottom line . Have a great night 😴😴
Someone with money to spare that is a car-corvette enthusiast will pay, but mega bucks to get it in real nice shape will pay mega bucks. I’ll pass for sure!
Not worth it. Guy is looking for a money grab. And a powerglide? Running it with no coolant? Good luck!
I’m the owners grandson, and to say this post is BS!! I recognised our shop and to let yall know, IT WAS NEVER FOR SALE!! Plus the price we paid for it would blow you guys away, it is a 1 owner car we knew the older lady(87yrs old) for many years and she didn’t have any kids of her our so it would’ve went to the bank. It’s funny how the internet makes people think that they would find a corvette like this, like it rolled out of the show room, mind you this car has been sitting since 81’ with 71,000 original miles. Matter fact I drove it down town Huntington Beach CA, AS IS!!! And got offered $120k at a stop sign, mind you I’m 19 yrs old so I wouldn’t take taken that offer, don’t believe me? Find out on my YouTube @4thebestcars I have it posted and other cars we have too. I drive it too my work till this day and get crowds taking pictures like it’s a Lamborghini.
S.F.W. there’s an A$$ for every seat.
