Corvettes for Sale: 2008 Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06 #236

It’s not always easy to find a 2008 Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06, better known as the Wil Cooksey Edition.

But now is your chance to buy such a Cooksey Z06, said to be in “mint condition” – with an asking price of $64,900 on Craigslist out of the Dallas, Texas area.

Each of the 427 Limited Editions was signed by Cooksey, the long-time manager of the Bowling Green assembly plant who retired in the spring of 2008 after having led the Corvette factory for 15 years. Only 505 of these cars were built that year, with Cooksey signing each inside lid of the center armrests while sitting in his office. He then personally delivered them to the station for installation.

This car is #236 and includes a Certificate of Authenticity bearing the signatures of Cooksey and Ed Peper, Chevrolet North America Vice President and describing the 427 Limited Edition as “a truly special and unique vehicle designed and built with a passion as genuine as its performance.”

With only 13,000 miles on the odometer, the car has “no silly engine modifications” and is “a stock vehicle the way GM intended it to be,” the seller says, noting that his car is “the best of the best” and informing interested parties that they “must see the quality of this car in person to believe it as you feel as if you are in a new car.”

This collector-grade car is loaded with documentation and all original delivery material and has been kept indoors at all times when not in use to protect the integrity and “newness” from the factory, according to the listing.

The Cooksey Editions all came with Crystal Red Metallic paint, a Xirallic-based color that had not been previously available on the Z06. A black hood stinger graphic and 427 badges along the side of the hood bulge are reminiscent of the 1967 427 Sting Rays.

Other exterior features included a unique set of spyder-style chrome wheels exclusive to the 427 Limited Edition, along with a body-color spoiler in place of the standard black spoiler, and body-color door handles.

All the cars were outfitted with the 3LZ Preferred Equipment package, and the interior includes a Dark Titanium leather-wrapped cockpit and special Crystal Red center trim plate. The seat inserts were dark gray with black surrounding them.

This car had a Total Vehicle Price of $85,945, with an AM/FM Stereo, CD Player, DVD Navigation system the only option at a cost of $1,750.

The big story, literally, was the car’s 427 cubic inch LS7 V8 engine that used titanium connecting rods and intake valves to help boost horsepower to 505 (hence the total production built) and RPM, with a 0-to-60 time of 3.7 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.7 seconds at 125 mph. The Z06 was clocked at a top speed of 198 mph on the German autobahn.

This car also includes head-up display, power driver seat, power telescoping steering wheel, owner’s manuals, books, both keys, original window sticker, signed glove box door, Z06 floormats, luggage shade and parcel net, and car cover.

The seller calls it “an absolute rare opportunity” to buy such a Z06. “If you have ever wanted a ‘barely used’ Z06 for almost $30,000 off its original price, here is your chance,” he says. “Garaged and under a cover with a clear and clean title, no liens, no stories, no excuses. New as new can be.”

  1. At 13K miles that car is basically still in initial break-in period.
I wouldn’t let go at that price unless it was a food on the table type of situation.

  2. Milo…replacing valve guides doesn’t fix it. The head geometry was incorrect…the only TRUE fix is aftermarket heads. Even “fixed” stock heads have failed…seen it many times.

  3. I own #211 and have met Mr Cooksey and him sign all my Greenlight cars . I also have the Franklin Mint , sadly not the same number as mine . My car also is low miles with only 23k . These cars are great as is all Z06 cars. They have every option available.
