This white over brown 1971 Corvette Stingray T-top coupe being offered for sale on eBay with an asking price of $42,000 out of the Geneva, New York area, certainly lives up to that description.
The price may sound high, but a deep dive into the background of this true survivor might change your mind.
For example, it’s been carefully maintained over the past 54 years after being delivered new in Vancouver (one of only 823 coupes that went to Canada out of 14,680 built) and today shows only 31,223 documented miles.
Better yet, it has every available option for 1971, except power windows, including a big block 454/365 horsepower V8 engine mated with a Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission.
Carefully stored for years while being displayed at shows, the car underwent a total refurbishment by a classic car shop at 28,000 miles using OEM parts. It now runs “very fast and reliably,” the seller says, with no leaks or service needs. About the only negative thing you can say about this car is that the AC works but the owner says he finds it blows so weakly “it’s useless.”
That wasn’t likely a concern when the car was residing in Canada, but a new owner in a warmer climate would likely want to repair it. Speaking of those Canadian roots, the car was built at the St. Louis factory to American specs and gauges and required special permission from the Canadian Cultural and Antiquities Board to leave that country.
The white paint is still the original coat that left the factory and remains “very attractive,” according to the current owner, who discloses that it does have tiny spider cracks from age that are visible upon very close inspection. Since the car has not been driven in winter, there’s no worries about a rusty birdcage or frame, however.
The brown leather interior, which includes the deluxe woodgrain trim, is immaculate and is one of the nicest originals we’ve seen.
Naturally, the tires aren’t the originals, but they’ve been thoughtfully replaced with $2,500 Coker bias ply Firestone tires just like the stock ones.
Included with the sale is extensive documentation, including the tank sticker, Protect-O-Plate, original purchase order (showing an MSRP of $7,100), and a copy of a magazine article about the car.
If originality is your cup of tea, you likely would enjoy a big sip of this ’71.
